At the end of the final game of last season there was definitely something special in the air. We had come from behind to beat Middlesbrough at St Mary’s with the whole club looking forward to a Wembley appearance. An appearance most thought we would win and be playing in The Premier League this season.
In other words, the footballing stars were in a line for us. Then came the still unresolved “ spygate” punishment and mass disappointment for all connection with the club.
Instead of happy owners prepared and able to invest in better players in the summer window it’s been a complete non event.
Players like T H B denied their promotion bonus and the opportunity to play in The Premier League now appear to be unsettled and wanting away.
Tonda’s team selection on Sunday and the position he chose to play them in looked bizarre to say the least. In addition we looked disinterested, unfit, slow and ponderous against a team which will finish upper mid table at best.
Even relatively minor aspect have gone wrong, such as the frankly ridiculous away shirt and pricing of the upcoming West Ham cup game.
I’m beginning to think that it’s gong to take a lot longer than this season for the owners, players and fans to recover from one of the biggest disasters in the club’s long history.

Coming down to the Stoke match on Saturday with my dad, this is his 71st season of going to watch Saints play and I've been going to the match with him since 1982.
I'm really looking forward to it, a chance to catch up with him, see some pals in the pub before the game and then watch The Saints, its what we've done for years and will continue to do so whoever owns the club, whoever plays for the club and whatever division we're in

As for suggesting the kit is down to last season? I mean that's just straight up mental.
The prices for West Ham on the other hand might be in a roundabout way related. In so much as this is the last season of parachute payments and gate receipts become even more important than they were before. So not going up forces the club to increase prices to cover shortfall |  | | |

I remember when we were in the premiership last time and the club were doing social media posts on people who’d come from America or whatever for one game, used to p*ss me right off because the stories I wanted to hear were the ones of your dad and the older mushes who’d done it forever.

As I said on another thread one of our ancestors played for St Mary's, my dad has his Hampshire junior club winners medal, I'll have to ask him about it again when I see him on Saturday.
A few years ago there was a picture in The Echo of a Saints team asking if anyone knew who some of the people were, one was related to my great aunt Ada who produced a very old photo which the historian chaps were very excited about as they'd never seen it before. I'm pretty sure my dad now has that photo too [Post edited 18 Aug 22:32]
