French Club Table 25 Million Bid Directly To Southampton For Forward
Tuesday, 15th Aug 2023 12:51

AS Monaco have been speaking to Saints a lot lately it seems, firstly there was the transfer of Salisu between the two clubs and now the middle man has been cut out and Monaco have slammed a bid of 25 million euros firmly on the table.

According to SportWitness
the man that Monaco want is Kamaldeen Sulemana who only arrived at St Mary's back in January from Rennes and now Monaco want to take him back to Ligue 1.

This is around the figure that Saints paid for the player who managed 18 games for Saints, scoring twice, both in a dead rubber game on the final day of the season against Liverpool and also just the one assist.

Since the return after the summer break Sulemana has yet to feature in a game of any sort and the club have been very quiet as to the reason why, there is no mention of injury or for that matter an attitude problem, but it is strange that he should be so invisible.

Whatever the reason, it seems Monaco are keen to do business and have opened negotiations directly with Saints and to their credit are not trying to hold us for ransom, their starting bid is as mentioned exactly what we paid for him, they are not trying to get him for a cut price and I would imagine that Saints won't haggle too much for a player whose value would have hardly increased that much after his performances in most of his 18 games.

Clearly he doesn't want to spend a season playing in the Championship, and a return to the French League will be a win-win situation... a no-brainer all round.
....and a money-back fee solves another problem.

If SR are going to sell anyone they get a bid for then the chances of promotion are going down the pan KS is the quality of player it will take to go up and exactly the sort needed when we do get there

If he wants to go then there is no point keeping him.
Sell at the amount offered and quick.

There is bound to be a lot of speculation, both informed and ridiculously uninformed, about players leaving and joining the club before the end of the month. What remains obvious though is that the balance of the squad still needs adjustment. If Sulemana doesn't want to contribute to the team then he's being paid to do nothing. If Tella is convinced that he is destined for greatness elsewhere so be it. Surely what really matters is that players brought in on loan, or agreeing a fixed contract, are fully focused and adapt to the playing style better than those who leave?

I would argue that 25m Euros is about £21.5m, so a bit more than what we paid for him - but then you never accept the first offer and to be fair, we haven't done that with a few players recently. May get another couple of £Mill if we hold out.
If he goes it will be a shame, as he is one of the players I was looking forward to watching, as he tears up the Championship !!
I'm sure I read somewhere before the Sheff Weds game, that he had a slight injury or had played in some national competition (?) and that he was a week or so behind the rest of the team in terms of pre-season. I was therefore hoping that meant he will feature against Plymouth !!

Sell definitely as quickly as possible! January was a disaster (barring Alcaraz) so if we get our money back on Sulemana that might mean we don't have to sell Charlie when Brighton come calling.

Not sure on this one, all comes down to his attitude, if it is good keep him.
