| Boycotted Trophy Final 10:27 - Mar 11 with 2840 views | PatfromPoole | Seems that this will be delayed; though I presume it could just as well be played behind closed doors, as there is so little interest in the competition from the highly-principled Portsmouth followers. Which makes Radio Solent’s regular plugging of this match all the more confusing. Somebody needs to tell them that Portsmouth fans are boycotting the competition. | |

| Boycotted Trophy Final on 17:42 - Mar 12 by grumpy | You want to read your history a bit more carefully,Children from Southampton and Portsmouth were evacuated to the New Forest during the war because of the bombing. Still don't let the truth get in the way. |
My mother was one of them, which was just as well as her house was totally destroyed along with 45,000 other buildings during the Southampton Blitz. Her father wasn't there at the time as he was fighting with the Royal Navy in the defence of Malta. He was a recipient of 12 medals and, like most of the men who sailed out of Portsmouth to fight in World War Two, he did not come from Portsmouth. In fact, many were from Southampton. Ironically he captained a Pompey team in the field gun competition at the Royal Tournament. They needed someone from Southampton to knock them into shape. For a coward like 130 to make fun of women and children who escaped being incinerated by German incendiary bombs is disgusting. The worzel has sunk to a new low. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ [Post edited 12 Mar 2020 18:09]

The skates are so bitter, there’s a post on their site celebrating the collapse of scum airport and another laughing at the spitfire statue we are erecting . Not long ago they were saying scum doesn’t have an airport because it’s in Eastleigh. Bitter, jealous freaks.

| Boycotted Trophy Final on 09:41 - Mar 13 with 524 views | SouthSeaSaint | Re 'Scabs'/Dock Strike The only verifiable information on 'Dock Strikes' relates to a time in the autumn of 1976 when Dockers in the commercial port in Portsmouth (who were part of a South Coast Port Workers Group including Southampton, Poole, Weymouth and Plymouth)) reneged on an agreement not to allow the fledgling Brittany Ferries company to transfer their freight operations from Plymouth to Southampton. As a consequence representatives from the ports (mainly Southampton, led by a guy called Ritchie Pearce) gathered in numbers at the gates of Pompey Commercial Port to prevent access. This went on for a number of days and made headline news in the local press so is 100% verifiable. The Pompey Dockers were rather intimidated by the arrival of mainly Southampton Dockers and called in the local plod which led to a number of arrests, including the brother of ex Saints 'keeper, Bob Charles. Interestingly there is a quite a bit of anecdotal information that the SCUM term started as a consequence of this dispute but with the insult pointed at the wrong perpetrators. | | | |

Pompey dock workers have always been notorious blacklegs: Southampton Dock Strike of 1890 Towards the end of August 1890, the Southampton Dock Company and the various shipping firms agreed to grant wage increases of 1d an hour. However, the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, which paid lower rates than the other principal firms, refused to bring its rates into line with the other companies. All of the employers, meanwhile, refused to grant official recognition to the Dockers' Union and the National Union of Seamen. Because of these two issues, a strike was declared on 7 September. Unlike the London Dock Strike, the strike in Southampton was marked by a certain amount of public disorder. Blacklegs from Portsmouth arriving at the railway station were attacked and large crowds gathered daily in the streets around the docks and, leading to fears of rioting. In response the Mayor requested assistance from the Home Office.

Typing on the train so didnt fully check my post before pressing the send button. The transfer of the fledgling Ferry Service was from Plymouth to Portsmouth (not Southampton) so Southampton Dockers were actually standing up for their colleagues in Plymouth not for their own purposes.
