Apparently all 20 Premier League clubs are in total agreement and are meeting today. What's the betting they will call off the season with no relegation. The EFL will go mad but they have no leverage over the Premier clubs. As for Liverpool it will bring on the introduction of mass victimititus on a scale never previously seen. |  |

There are going to be some real hard luck stories this year. This could turn from being what looked like Liverpool's dream season into a nightmare one, petering out with their unbeaten record destroyed by Watford, getting knocked out of the Champions League and failing to win their first Premier League title. Poor little Pompey will miss out on their big fan show at Wembley and still be stuck in the third tier. It's going to be heartbreaking for their fans. [Post edited 13 Mar 2020 8:36]

Just read that in Germany they are considering ending the Bundesliga early with no trophies or relegation. It is the only thing to do and far more preferable to playing sports behind closed doors.
At the end of the day, it's only a bloody sport and if people are better protected than gathering together then good.

My local team Harrogate town are 2nd in the conference 3 points behind Barrow and in the semi final of the FA trophy, well on for the double. If the season were to end now their best ever season would be exactly the same as saints, 2nd 3 points off top and cup semi final.  |

Not sure how they can cancel the season. What about the legal implications for Leeds and WBA? They are on the verge of a 150 million pound promotion. Liverpool too would surely not agree to lose out on winning the league. I would be surprised if they just cancelled the season.
In my view, much better to suspend the season and then continue it into June to get it finished. They can cancel the Euros as that hasn't started and could be played next year.
Looking likely that tomorrow's game will be off. Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton so far affected so surely they will just postpone all games. | |

Many clubs lower down will also go bust if they can't get revenue from the remaining games.

The virus will be with us for a long time but that's not the point. The point is that there will be an epidemic peak (hopefully only one) and the objective is to lessen and lengthen that, to make sure that people can receive proper treatment and survive. If the peak is too sharp, the health service won't be able to cope and more people will die unnecessarily.
Looks likely that the Euros will be postponed for a year, so there should be time in the summer to complete the fixtures when we are past the peak.
Certainly can't see the season being binned at this stage. If nothing else, they will delay that decision as long as they can and bend over backwards to avoid it. | |

The season is suspended until AT LEAST 3 April. I would be amazed if they resumed then. Half the players in the league will be carrying coronavirus and all clubs rely on a number of older backroom staff, who will be in the high-risk group..
After the self-isolation periods, lack of training, recovery from infection etc, the players are going to need a longer pre-season than usual this summer to prepare for next season. [Post edited 13 Mar 2020 11:44]

I don't want to sound like I'm a merchant of doom - honest - but the PL delaying games until the 4th April is laughable. The state of things by then will be a whole lot worse than they are now! | |
