| Womens Football Attendances 08:14 - Nov 15 with 4188 views | SaintNick | This weekend is being hailed as a success for women's football with a big push from sky tv etc and televised games on a day when there was little other football shown live/ Several clubs had record attendances , but the truth is for all the media attention, they were little more than the usual League two or National conference turnouts. Chelsea's 4-0 win over Manchester City was watched by 3,174 - the biggest attendance at the Academy Stadium so far this season - while Birmingham City also recorded their largest crowd this campaign with 1,386 at St Andrew's for the defeat by Villa. There was a new record crowd registered for Spurs at The Hive as 2,896 saw them draw with league leaders Arsenal - live on BBC One - and Brighton had 3,566 fans at the Amex. This was the big push weekend after a couple of years of the women's game being given equal billing in all the media especially Sky & the BBC, yet the crowds did not flock to watch. Most people I speak to are supportive of womens football, but having it pushed down their throats on the front pages so to speak of the BBC & Sky is putting them off, it is given equal billing, yet it is not an equal product, it is being pushed for the sake of being pushed and if it is not careful it will die. Possibly not a PC viewpoint, as i say I want to see it succeed, but I fear it wont | |

| Womens Football Attendances on 16:28 - Nov 15 by saint68 | I've said it before and I'll say it again..the standard of womans football is shyte...it doesn't deserve the coverage it gets and its not the next big thing that many broadcasters desire. I expect the game you watched on Saturday afternoon Nick, was of a higher level. Uk media is in full ticking the box mode currently..and many great shows have been reduced to tedium due to the current objectives. |
Don’t worry S68. I am sure you can still find old Benny Hill and Love Thy Neighbour shows on YouTube.

Sorry Sogs, you dismiss a valid viewpoint with cheap (unrelated) shots. You’re better the that - any chance of a cogent counter argument?

| Womens Football Attendances on 16:24 - Nov 15 by Saintsforeverj | Nick as I understand it, is saying that it's great for women to play football if they want to, and it's great for people to watch it, if they want to. It's great that it's promoted and good luck to them. But it's not the same as mens football and clearly isn't as popular, going by the attendances at the weekend. They shouldn't be saying Chelsea got beaten at home or Southampton lose their top striker to covid when they are talking about the women's team. There should be a section for womens game, not mixed in with the men's game. They should say Chelsea women, Southampton women etc. The fact that they don't say this, is where people rightly say, it's being rammed down peoples throats. [Post edited 15 Nov 2021 16:25]

I think generally that's what everyone in this thread is saying, apart maybe from SOG (please correct me if I am wrong there SoG), in that yes it's good to have but don't build it up to being something it's not Now then, when's the next men's netball match ...............

The thing is he's not, you disagree with a damp squib liberal he'll call you a racist and all sorts, he actually weakens the power to the word. The illiberal liberal is the actual fascist.

What I am trying to say is that I don’t think that anyone is trying to build it up to be better than it is. The impression I have is that they are just trying to give it more coverage as as been happening in other sports for years. No one bats an eyelid when women’s tennis, athletics, etc etc get mentioned in the media. There seems to be a concerted effort to give women’s football the same standing. I know for those who think that women should still spend their time between the kitchen and the supermarket 😉, but as I have said, eventually it will find its own level and we will have to find something else to moan about. As with all other sports, it has nothing to do with women being better or equally as good as the men, it is just about women competing and being treated equally. It will ultimately succeed or fail on TV depending on an audience so, as I say, if the current effort to grow the audience doesn’t work, it will be given less importance. It’s got fu ck all to do with liberalism Barry, but you seem to spend your sad little life in calling out anything remotely left of Attila the Hun so good luck with that. It is all down to good old fashioned capitalism and people trying to find new growing markets to exploit. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I’m the wet blanket? You are never around when Saints win but when we lose of few games we get treated to the usual anti Saints Sanchez rants. Having been thrown off another forum this has become the place of choice for your rants. You have now started on Celtic too, another to add to your hate list along with liberals and the club.
| Womens Football Attendances on 12:33 - Nov 16 with 1248 views | Bison | Why dont they give Ladies Football their own TV channel , there is one for the Golf , F1 , Darts when its on , Cricket , there is even a NFL Channel. Another option to judge the appeal is make Corrie , Eastenders and womens football Pay per View , that way they can generate their own income and if it becomes super popular then they can reap all the benefits. The income could increase the ladies wages or more likely we would have Brad Pitt and George Clooney being transferred from Corrie to Eastenders | |

You have a choice whether to watch it or not. I don’t like boxing or horse racing so just zone out when that stuff is “forced down my throat” on the news or elsewhere. I’m not sure that there is anything wrong with equal opportunities either. Back in the 60’s I loved motor racing, especially Formula 1 and Formula 5000 but if you were lucky you might catch a bit of the British Grand Prix on the news but none of the others and you could forget live coverage. Now I don’t bother with it anymore it is all over the place. That didn’t just happen over night. I’d be really surprised if women’s football ever gets as big as men’s in this country but you can’t blame people for trying to market it. When I was a kid none of the London editions of national newspapers used to carry reports of Saints games and as tv coverage was also very limited I, as a minority Saints fan in London, received virtually no media coverage. Coverage is now available for multiple minority interest sports thankfully. Just look at the way that some of the martial arts sports take off when a Brit does well in the Olympics. Any sport for that matter. People who are interested pick it up, people who don’t ignore it and get in with other stuff. As I have said before, there is clearly a concerted effort to push women’s football (which is growing by the way) but at a certain point, if the interest isn’t there, it will get pushed back down the agenda.
| Womens Football Attendances on 14:25 - Nov 16 with 1197 views | 130yrs_and_one_Cup | What an ironic thread, going on about Womens' attendances. Nick has obviously forgotten about a certain womens' team from Preston who had a record attendance of almost twice his clubs' highest ever crowd. No wonder, womens' football is miles behind the mens, it was banned by the FA, an organisation that also allowed a certain PE instructor without any mangerial experience to take England to 4 world cup. | |

Why would I have to like Celtic? You can't make me like something, I find their anti British stance at opposites to my beliefs, it'll be right up your liberal attitudes though.

Womens sport has far lower viewing figures than mens in the main, more women watch mens sports and until that changes nothing will really happen. Using different as opposed to inferior is also so woke pc its insulting, make it fully open and inclusive for arguments sake, what then? A massive fallout of non participation by women and no one would want that at all, just call it as it is. By that the goalkeepers, stop trying to beat evolution and make the pitches marginally smaller and the goals also.

A Sport like Horse Racing Rachel Blackmore could potentially be called one of the best Jockey's in the world and no reason why she couldn't actually become the best in the world. Tennis , I am not sure but maybe Ashleigh Barty the world number one lady maybe make the top 10,000 in the world so perhaps there are 9,999 blokes better than her. Football so Christine Sinclair ( who is she you all ask ) considered the best lady footballer in the world , well I would be surprised if she made the top 10,000,000 in the world . As you state you can't best evolution and bare in mind Dallas Boys under 15's beat the reigning World Champions. Football is a very physical game and women are just not built for it so trying to promote it as such just wont work , perhaps chsnge the rules to suit like they do in Tennis but expecting the public to suddenly think its a match will never happen.

The very best of luck to them, I mean that but I'm not watching it, its crap at the moment, didn't the US get beat 5-0? The Williams sisters got smashed by a player outside the top 200, people lose interest when they're told its different not worse, rivalries keep sport entertaining when its not the best.

| Womens Football Attendances on 09:41 - Nov 19 with 930 views | blambo | There is a dead easy way for a Club to win the WSL... Round up a bunch of reasonably competent male footballers who decide that they are now women and romp to success with a 100% record and a whole season of clean-sheets. This wouldn't be at all fair on the women who genuinely play and enjoy football or their (relatively few) fans. There's no debate about Women's Football; it's just being forced on us by 'them'. Whoever 'they' are; unelected, unaccountable, unwanted. Oh dear, now I shall be lambasted for 'Hate Speech' which this most certainly IS NOT. What a cess-pit of a world this has become. | | | |

| Womens Football Attendances on 09:44 - Nov 20 with 800 views | Sadoldgit | It seems that I have a different opinion of what “forced down your throat” means than others. To me it means you are forced to consume something whether you want to or not. I have never felt forced to watch women’s football and when result come up I do what I do when I am not interested in something and either turn the channel over or look at my phone. The promotion of women’s football isn’t aimed at a bunch of crusty old dinosaurs like us and if it gets more women interested in watching or playing the game then all power to it. I think I can live with the hype until it finds its own level. | | | |

As I said, I won't make a point of watching it as it just does not appeal to me as opposed to watching men's football Re my PC comment, with all the cr@p going around nowadays about what you can and can't say, I was commenting that someone would probably be upset by the fact that I don't think it is equal to the man's game which to me it always has been (yes, women's football has been played for years but only to a certain standard) which is probably not deemed politically correct in these ridiculous times as I don't think they should be thought of as equal Yes, by all means promote it (and good to see Saints Women doing well in whatever division they play in as I believe they are top?) |
I’m not sure anyone thinks of it as equal do they? Anyone, there more important things to get wound up about.
