| Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread on 15:59 - Mar 5 with 1523 views | 1885_SFC | That second goal was a bit of a killer and a sickener. FF saving us from further embarrassment via his legs. We can't handle Coutinho unfortunately. Not sure what the answer is today. A bit of a strange game. We certainly need to up our quality of passing & be more menacing in the final third. We look a bit lost today... tired. Get an early goal after the restart and who knows. Not feeling confident if I'm honest though. Get out there and surprise me 2nd half Saints! | |

Agree. Bednarak and Stephens are all over the place, and error prone. Stephens for the 1st and Bednarak got lucky giving ball away just outside the 'D" . Massive gaps in defence. Said it before, Stephens can not read the game or attacking situations very well. He is very reactive and slow. For some reason Adams is hugging the left flank/corner, so not causing any problems out there. Villa could have 4 or 5 in that 1st half. Probably fortunate to only be 2. We look good going forward but need to sort defence out.

I am confident we can score (even 2), but not convinced we can keep a clean sheet in second half.

Went through his legs for the 3rd. Think I'll just put this down as a bad day at the office. They are just far more clinical than us today.

He is a huge miss for us As i posted earlier we NEED another good CB Stephens should have gone after the cardiff debacle years back

If it wasn’t for his legs we would have been another 2 down.

| Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread on 17:11 - Mar 5 with 1132 views | kingslandstand1 | Not at the game, but I see Valery came on in place of Elyounoussi at HT and look what happened after that Was Elyounoussi injured or playing cr@p, but without seeing or listening to any commentary that strikes me as taking creativity off and replacing with a mediocre defender or am I being unfair or did we really need to do something at the back? | |

Despite the scoreline Ff made some good saves . I didnt want to tempt fate earlier but thought that playing three at the back might have been better considering salisu was out with their three gits up top . Nevermind the run had to come to an end . We still gave it a go in the final half an hour . Gerrard done his homework and knew our weakness ,getting it over our fullbacks getting 3 on to 2 is one of them . I think a few of us had a feeling about this one . We have now got to turn this around ready to face a confident Newcastle side on thursday

Yeah just seen the highlights of the game for the first time, and those two were dreadful, and arguably at fault for all 4 of the goals, but almost certainly 3 of the 4. Annoying as well, as Stephens with Salisu (Man U) or Valery (West Ham) was pretty decent at the back, and Bednerak with Salisu has been our main two for the usual league game, and they work together well. But as today shows, those two might work well with Salisu, but not each other, and today that cost us,

I agree with you 22. It’s a position where we always seem to pick up injuries every year, the first choice pairing both need to be Salisu level. Lyanco has done quite well but still unproven. Another quality signing in this position and have Lyanco and Bednarek as back up next season.

| Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread on 18:29 - Mar 5 with 942 views | Saintsforeverj | Salisu and Lyanco are both our best defenders but typically they are both injured at the same time. Stephens and Bednerak are both back up now, so to have them both playing was a recipe for disaster today really against Coutinho, Ings and Watkins. Bednerak and Stephens are ok when they are next to a good defender. Both together they are usually useless. | |

exactly this we always field an average CB when any injury happens back there Salisu can carry one but playing two average ones together always leads to disaster

| Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread on 10:10 - Mar 5 by Bridders2 | Redmond never scores and headless chicken come to mind when he's on. He makes good runs into nowhere and often shoots when he should pass and passes when he should shoot . He is fast and talented but has been with us a long time and not improved his decision making even under Ralph. Only a sub at best. |
Have to agree totally with this, I have never thought him prem quality, he slows the play down everytime. Scored a few good goals but imo we should flog him.

| Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread on 08:13 - Mar 6 with 584 views | Mrangry25 | Bednarek always seem too lightweight, Stephens should never pull on a Saints shirt again he is dog-sh*te. Wee were not at the races today and I guess we were due a drop somewhen. Let’s dust ourselves off and have go at Newcastle on Thursday. | |
