| Southampton V Chelsea Matchday Thread on 01:11 - Aug 31 by ElijahK | Yeah but then you get the issue I’d what happens when the linesmen messes up? As I remember that exact thing happened when Man City played in the first season VAR was used (I think it was against West Brom or Cardiff if I recall correctly) as the linesmen flagged, but as there was a goal scoring oppertunity the ref played on and city scored. But there was a lot of controversy as the attacker was onside so the offside wouldn’t count, but the defenders weren’t happy as they didn’t really go for it as they just presumed that it would be overruled even if it did go in. So unfortunately it’s just one of those things that until there aren’t any linesman anymore for offsides and it’s just VAR with some sort of bot, that we’ll always have that issue. |
I agree on tight decisions, but when it is clearly offside he should flag as that was last night

Look I don’t disagree with that, but the issue is that every once in a while (as not very often at all, but it still will occur) there will be a mistake where the linesmen has missed someone, or could be a bit outta line so misses something, where they’ve even flagged for an incident that they thought was blatant but in the end certainly wasn’t, which is why they got it wrong. As even if it is a blatant one, the ref may still play on (just in case the linesman did mess up) like what happened in that City game, which would just cause even more controversies, as well as the game still not stopping those little incidents (although I do remember Lavia pulling up before that throughball was even played) As yeah it would help to prevent little issues from time to time, but overall it could also cost many teams points, and in the end there is unfortunately no perfect solution for these incidents.

I agree after seeing the recording, appalling behaviour; acting hurt then running to the ref to try and get Adams a yellow or red. What would Elijah do about such an obvious attempt to fool the ref.?
