Don't bother retiring.
This so called Mini Budget has screwed Pensioners like myself.
1) The reversal of National Insurance contributions doesn't apply to Pensioners because we don't pay it.
2) The reduction of the Income Tax rate doesn't help us because most Pensioners only pay minimal income tax because their income is so low.
3) Stamp Duty changes don't help us because we're not likely to be moving house.
4). Utility bills hurt Pensioners more than the those that go to work.
Because we spend more time at home hence use more Gas / Electric/ Water etc.
If they take away our bus passes we'll be pooped.
Same old Tory policies looking after their own by " making the rich richer & the poor poorer". |

And many of those pension pots are made up from stocks and shares portfolios, which, having taken a 20-30% hit from Covid and Putin, now face further market devaluation as bankers further pillage the market, making trades to enhance their bonuses. Meantime, the cost of travel and oil/gas which are dollar based pricing have just got more expensive, which will increase the borrowing that we all will have to pay for.
Nobody in the world economic scene thinks these moves are the right thing, apart from the Tory right wing. Nearly all Tory MPs are multi millionaires, hmmmm, could that have anything to do with it? |  | | |

I've no problem with a tax cut for working people as such and cutting stamp duty for house buyers, but they shouldn't have cut the tax rate of 45% to 40% for People earning millions a year. We all know Ronaldo, Haaland, Salah and co don't f@cking need it. They could even have moved the threshold for when the 45% comes in, like people who earn 300 grand a year plus, if they must. But millionaires getting a load more tax back when they don't need it, only for the government to borrow more and more, crippling future generations is terrible and will be f@cking suicidal for them at the next election. | |

Cos' this place is a giant echo chamber.
People should be encouraged to work harder and the more successful you are the more you'll earn, which in turn means more taxes that can be used to help those that really need it not those that EXPECT it. Simple really: and a model that has allowed people from all walks of life to be successful in the US.
Why should people who work really hard have to pay for those who choose not to? That is Socialism at its worst and leads to a country stagnating. As is happening in the UK after the ridiculous COVID farce and people being paid to stay at home and not work. | | | |

It's nothing to do with Biden and more to do with the American mindset. For all the faults/issues it is still a place where you can be what you want to be through hard work and a modicum of luck.
And my move was for work - and I'm proud of my adopted country for all the opportunities it has given me and the fact that there is not a shaming of/jealousy for successful people and a feeling that successful people should be made to pay for those that feel they are entitled to the State looking out for them.
My parents were working class and never asked for any handout from the State. My mum's sister, on the other hand, has always sponged off the State and never done a proper days work in her 70+ years. That is the culture and sense of entitlement that will hold the UK back. | | | |
