NJ is cloning RH by overthinking games.
It looks like he left Lavia out to save him for the Brentford match which is much more important.
But play each games as it comes & always field your strongest team.
NJ said in pre match interview that he had selected the strongest team available to him.
He didn't !.
That would suggest he's not very good at assessing players because there's no way that Bree should have started ahead of Perraud. Peraud is our best left back & KWP is our best right back so play them there.
Bednarek should not have played ahead of Caleta Car, Bednarek is just a very average louge mouthed moaner & the only challenges he makes are when he verbally assaults the ref.
Caleta Car is a calming influence at the back.
And forget trying to play 5 at the back it never works for us, we have too many bodies in there & they end up confused & leaving it to each other. Plus it invites the opposition on to us.
We should play the extra man in midfield or even up front to keep the opposition in their half.
I know, we all think that we are better managers than NJ, but it basic stuff so stick to basics & don't overthink it.

Having slept on it the problem is clearly Jones. He claims to have spent hours watching Saints videos. Well he is either thick or is lying. Anyone who has watched Saints over the last few years will tell you when we play 3 at the back it never works. We were so much better in the second half so if he resorts back to it on Saturday then that’s it he can do one.

As for last nights toon love in. Disappointing not to see the cameras focus on Ant and Dec or Jimmy Nail. A Gazza crying would have made it even more special. They will be dancing in the streets of Riyadh.

2nd half the greatest fans in the world were silent all you could hear was a distant oh when the saints , their fans are like Pompey and Liverpool and believe they are the best.

Poll: Who is the biggest c*nt?

A Newcastle fan here ... a relieved one !!
Respect to all the Southampton faithful who made that incredibly long journey yesterday. You were a noisy lot and a true credit to your club and your colours. Respect to your team who gave it a good shot when in truth just about everything was stacked against them. The 2nd half was as much pressure as Newcastle have faced for quite some time and in the end we were fraying at the edges. You have a team who, on that performance are in a false league position and I wish you well for the rest of the season. Good luck

Jones doesn't/didn't give a toss about the cup games - I'm sure of that. To him they are nothing other than a distraction. He's been brought in to prevent the club from going down & that is his only concern. Cup games mean more injuries & fatigue to players. He picked the wrong team for both Newcastle games & a crap one for the Blackpool one which, ultimately, he just managed to scrape through with.

Old School is Cool

Think we need to be a bit realistic here, Newcastle are one of the best teams in the Country having lost one game all season and not let a goal in for 10 games.

Player for player none of our lot would get in their first 11, they're decent, we're a bottom few PL side, it's where we are at the moment, it was always gonna be difficult over 2 legs, one leg like Man City you have a chance.

Forget the 4 or 5 at the back, after 2 minutes Armstrong just admiring Longstaff dancing into the box (instead of tracking him) is not NJ's fault, it's unacceptable laziness by AA, and Lycano for the second, honestly if he's a PL player l'll get me boots back on, meant we'd have to climb Everest in 70 minutes.

As for the Newcastle fans, had a little sing song with the DJ before ko and at full time, but for the last 70 minutes were like 50,000 church mice,

But surely the point is, if the team had been set up correctly, ( no five at the back yet again for example) certain other players started (Perraud at left back and Kyle Walker Peters at right back for example) and Diallo yet again instead of Lavia, they could have got something from the game as the second half showed after the enforced changes were made.
Too late of course.
