NZ have their injury and selection problems, whilst we seem to have a wealth of players chafing at the leash to show how positive and talented they are. All this, under a captain who may just go down as our GOAT. Typically, he's more interested in bringing out the best in others:

Having been put in on a "green top" by NZ, the 1st day 2nd session has been incredible by Root and Brook. Root has been solid, Brook has been magnificent. Should he keep up to this very high level, the convicts will have to develop new dirty tricks to keep the Ashes this Summer. He's been that good. Steve "sandpaper" Smith my arse.
Of course, we have to bowl and NZ have to bat on this track, but apart from the predictable early glitches, it's looking good. |

It's not a fluke neither, his batting style is pretty simple and he obviously has a very clear plan in his head of how to accumulate runs. I just hope to god he gives batting coaches a wide berth when he has a string of poor results, which he will at some point. He's the type of player who i would buy Test match tickets just to watch him bat, somebody who empties the bars like Botham used to do. England are blessed with a lot of very entertaining cricketers at the moment. | | | |

What an astonishing game.
Has to be said, convict umpire Rod Tucker denies us a wide that would have tied the game and won us the series. Next ball, Jimmy is out but hey ho. That is a fine margin after five days hard fought cricket, not 90 minutes of drab. A magnificent sporting spectacle that only test cricket can produce. Not been following the T20 series in Bangladesh, but a 3-0 loss looks both deserved and sobering for an England side drunk on recent success in all formats
Complaints about having a depleted side don't wash with me, nor do the spin-favourable conditions. Young legspinner Ahmed aside, these were all experienced international performers. Still, it's better to get these setbacks out of the way before World Cups come around | |
