of a lot of the anger, angry people and drama monarchs on here and at matches. So I’m going to give both a miss for a while.
I’ve enjoyed this board for over 20 years. Clive’s writing is truly brilliant, and I also admire a lot of posters.
I’m 57 and have been going to Loftus Road since 1974. Some of the people I used to go with - and loved - have since died. But the place we went to together is no less special for that. Since 1976, it’s been mainly downhill! But I’ve been lucky to see Bowles + Francis, Thomas + Masson, Allen + Goddard, Currie + Waddock, and so on and so on. And amid the many disappointments and what feels like thousands of away defeats (even in 75/6, we were dodgy away), there have been many wonderful times and moments, and many good teams.
I’ve often been very fed up with the team/club/manager/board etc. I was again last night, watching a stream. I’ve been to plenty of away games too, including Rotherham a week and a half ago.
I’ve inflicted my can’t kick it love of QPR ( I grew up a block north of Queen’s Park and probably assumed everyone’s local team was that good) on my 3 sons, who also go to games and also hurt when we lose.
But the level of bile directed at the players and the club at the moment - only by some, I recognise that - is so ott and out of proportion to any reality. As is the look at me, I’m even angrier than you material.
Yes it’s been a bleak season/14 months, and we may go down and that would be a financial disaster for the club. But (the large majority of) clubs survive this and most go on to enjoy better times.
Some have said this is the worst team in living memory. It isn’t. The Ray Harford team that survived because of a fluke Jamie Pollock own goal and the team that Ollie took down but Gerry built were significantly worse. The Burtenshaw team relegated in 78/9 are down there too.
I also remember Don Howe’s Rangers losing 8 in a row in 90/91, before Bobby Gould came in as his assistant, the club signed Tillson + Peacock, won 3-1 at Anfield, and finished 12th (out of 22 in those days). DH would never have lasted that spell these days, but he did a good job at QPR overall, and the team he built was fun to watch.
More than that, I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of last season. Yes QPR did implode - I was at Peterborough and Barnsley on successive Saturdays - but I really liked Warburton’s team (I too miss Dom Ball and Barbet) for most of that season, and I remember most other fans did too. Quite a few of those players remain, and while it’s entirely fair comment to criticise them for how feeble they’ve been for so long now, they - the ones on the pitch, not Beale’s sulkers - are not playing terribly for the heck of it. In some cases, their confidence is shot - but we lack a player to drop them for. They’re not wasters like Beale or Assou-Ekotto, and I don’t hate any of them.
So I’ll be back at Loftus Road and on this board after a break, but in the meantime it would be a lot more fun to see less aggression.

In early 2010 QPR were on an awful run and I recall protests against the owners, Briatore and Ecclestone. These protests led to Briatore stepping aside and putting Bhatia in charge who in return appointed Warnock as manager,
The club were on a similar downward spiral having been highflying in October under Magilton.
Some obviously don’t agree, but there is far too much apathy now and maybe protests are needed otherwise the club will continue to slide. Ferdinand will stay in post and carry on earning a good salary for directing the club towards L1. He won’t go voluntarily but needs to go and the owners could do a lot worse than appointing Warburton to replace him. |
That's how I see things as well. Although I don't think Warburton will come back here.
The problem is we've been badly run by so many different owners and football is full of dodgy owners a lot of QPR fans feel its better the devil you know.
I think Ferdinand has had his chance but it's time for a change.
Some fans are happy to be like Wycombe in L1 but it's such a defeatist attitude when we know this club can compete at a good level. It's frustrating |  |

If QPR fans can't vent their anger on a forum for the fans then what is the point of having a forum? It is a place for us to exchange opinions like we would down the pub after the game. Things can get heated wherever debates are held on any subject. There is no point in a forum where we all pretend that everything is great and bury our heads in the sand.
Many believe the club is in decline and with no prospect of money being pumped into it we will become another Wimbledon or Orient for many years to come. No money means no quality so for us fans who got to watch Marsh, Bowles, Wegerle, Stainrod, Currie, Trevor Francis, Byrne and many other quality players, it feels right now that we won't see their like again play for us. Yes Rangers have never been great away but at least we had players worth watching even when they lost.
I believe this is our worst team and I certainly disagree about the Pollock OG team being worse. Mark Kennedy was quality and destroyed Middlesbrough when they were top in a 5-0 win. Add to that for the last 10 games or so we had Vinnie Jones and Razor Ruddock in defence. They may have been past their best but were a damn sight better than the defenders we have now.
We may have been terrible in 1979 and when Ollie came in that time but the financial climates were different. There is more and more money about today so relegation now would be more detrimental than in past relegations. For example we now have FFP to stick the boot in further. Fans are rightly concerned and come on this board to air their feelings and fears. They are perfectly entitled to do that. They were involved in two victories.

Oh and a really good post by the OP, I have resisted the temptation to put people on Ignore I use my own personal filter, I understand and agree with your frustration, as you can tell from my post above I've seen a lot worse and so have plenty on this Forum, current count for your post 57 For and 2 Against so that tells you a lot.... I get it. I totally get it. I think if they had been roller coastering all season it may have been different and there would have been a siege mentality. But, given they have dropped off a cliff Kamikaze style this season after leading the division, and with the club seemingly on the edge of a financial cliff re points deductions or worse it is easier to see why fans are getting so wound up.
Also I am finding that in life generally there is either apathy or aggression in so many things since the pandemic. Not much in between. |  |

I recently had a road to Damascus moment regarding the ignore button. I’ve used it liberally and LfW is a much better place for me and I think I’ve become a much better and less obnoxious poster because the ability to reply without thinking has been taken away.
I’ve been battling people on here for years and I just realised that it’s not doing anyone any favours, least of all me, to play my part in a to and fro where nobody changes their mind and leaves the experience in a more negative state than when they entered.
I can’t do anything about what people say. I can however remove my knowledge of it.
Now it’s all about roast potatoes and a few chuckles at DannyPaddox photoshops. Can’t recommend it enough.

Point being that when we were getting relegated to the 4th, losing to Yeovil and Hayes etc and constantly on the verge of losing the Cottage it was pretty bleak - no one would have guessed what was around the corner. Our promotion under Micky Adams was probably my 2nd favourite season because things had been so s hit for so long and the club was on its arse.
Football goes in cycles - might be hard work at the moment but it won’t always be. Anyhow, sorry to have interrupted the thread. | |

Moson, you were obviously brought up in the days of shocking hooliganism and violence in football — something which is now largely confined to much smaller groups of idiots who are less revered than they were back in the day. Hate and aggression have always been a byproduct of football, but in todays game it doesn't manifest itself in the same way — it's less violent, but yet so much more accessible, thanks to social media.
It seems odd to me that online vitriol has you running for the exit, when you've seen much worse in real life, growing up around the game in the 70's and 80's? Granted, QPR weren't really at the epicentre of hooliganism, but still? Don't let keyboard warrior fanatics put you off being here of all places — the ratio of sense vs senseless here is similar to the odds of me ever reaching my 'target weight' ... about 200:1.
To your point about QPR fans specifically, at this moment in time — This season has been awful. Top in October, then a chain of events set in motion by MB leaving and the manner of his departure. We're on our third manager, 2 wins in close to 5 months, our best players nowhere near the pitch and nowhere near their usual standards when they have been. So many injuries, shocking finances, player apathy... there's a lot to be angry about, and it'll come out at the games, towards the players. Yes, rationally speaking it probably doesn't pay to hurl abuse and anger towards players that are already having a crisis of confidence, but football fans in the main aren't known for being rational... but you know this, you've been around it long enough.
I think the atmosphere on here and at Loftus Road is a result of this truly terrible season - yes we have gone down before, we've had dark days, but not in this age of social media. Hatred is so accessible now — once upon a time the only opinions that surrounded you were those of your fellow supporters at games, your mates, your family or the match reports in the Sunday papers.
Now opinions are everywhere, and they are being spewed forth from the safety of an armchair, so they are at times going to be extreme and inflammatory. Just smile at the absurdity of it all and keep scrolling until you find one a sensible post, they do still outnumber the stupid ones on here at least.
Much like supporting the team on the pitch this season, treat the atmosphere around the club the same — hunker down, ride it out and hope for better days to come. Don't let it spoil the fun of coming on here and reading Clive's reports — we're all bearing witness to his nervous breakdown, he's going to need your support soon, too. |  | | |

Fair play to the OP. Sad state of affairs when you’ve got fellow qpr fans on here telling others to ‘fcuk off’ and trying to apportion blame to supporters for no apparent reason aside from frustration after yet another loss.
We’re all feeling the pain at the moment and we all share common ground as supporters of this football club. Let’s try to remember this at 5pm if it’s another loss this afternoon. |  | | |
