Easy to wax lyrical after yesterday’s first half and focus on all the big upticks all over the pitch.

Something happened second half that showed me more than all our goals did and it involved Leicesters undeserved goal from the penalty.
After the post was struck and their man reacted fastest to score a few players had an inquest.
Think it was Jimmy Dunnes man…. Him. RND, Cooke and a couple of others were having quite an involved discussion and not at all happy we’d not got the rebound first.
At 4-0 up and late in the game it would’ve been easier for them to just shrug and move on closing the game out. I really liked what I saw in front of me from the South Africa Road seats.
Standards - don’t accept them slipping even when cruising to a win.

I have to confess to being a tiny bit gutted that Leicester “won the second half”; really hope the players are as well. I was hoping we’d razzle another couple of goals in to bury that Coventry away result once and for all plus get the GD back on track.
Let’s hope the players have that in mind and attack the Pompey game with the level of effort and commitment required.

Final word on standards for the Lino on the SA Road side.
Shockingly bad.
If you cannot keep up with play and judge blatant offsides then give it up.

Had to expect something from LCFC after the break, and I thought we managed it well. However, we did have some good chances where we could and should have increased our lead.

I still think Buzz and Kone's first touches can improve, and we can also improve our decision making in the final third. Equally, consistency is a target. You look at some of our performances and you think, the POs are not impossible and then a week later, they serve up a Norwich, Wednesday, or Derby and you're reminded that we're actually still developing.

Still, looking at it in the round, they all played really well yesterday and everyone contributed to an excellent team performance. JS also got everything right as well, and that includes the Nehru cut. He's beginning to look as smooth as Brian Ferry on the touchline.

On the subject of constantly improving, I was amazed to discover that Dembélé has a right foot, and that it works pretty well. Leicester seemed unprepared for him being able to go round their left back rather than turning left at the edge of the area as he has usually done before. He was so much more dangerous as a result.

It was funny to see Leicester having a “this can’t go on” crisis huddle after the third goal, then amble back to position after the fourth.

Sints was chatting about that inquest as well, LB.

Same as you, disappointed that we lost the second half. JCS going off changed the game completely.

Our out of position shape is so much better when he’s playing ain’t it. So many times we lose the ball or it’s a loose pass and he’s just there in the right place to mop up.

Such a frustrating situation. Clearly the best defender at the club, and clearly not fit to play more than 60 minutes in a week.

Four goals up at half time and with the busy Christmas and New Year schedule they played out the rest of the game. Most team would have done the same its called professionalism and its about time they showed they are now capable of it. Leicester's goal was the only way they were going to score. Maybe it was hand ball under the rules of the game but hardly deliberate.

Definitely, dm.

With him playing we can condense the play so we get the ball back much quicker.

The most important thing for me is that we turn up and play like we did in the first half on Boxing Day. It will be extremely deflating to turn in a performance like we did last season against Pompey or this season against Derby or Norwich.

I hope the players see what we're capable of doing and deliver that more consistently now.

*edit* Exactly like PlanetHonneywood says above.

Take your point LB, but replays showed that the guy who scored had encroached before the spot kick and so the goal should have been disallowed. Like you, felt gutted that they got a goal as I felt going home with a nil was way more than they merited.

As i said elsewhere, I feel our mental attitude, toughness and aggression at home are improving bit by bit, which is hugely important if we are to progess.

Very good point. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't do more in the second half but on reflection I tend to agree with your view.

A couple of minor points though, I would like to have seen Smyth's pace a little earlier and more than five minutes for Poku. I'm also a little concerned that we are over playing Burrell.

Agreed

I was saying to my mate sitting next to me I’d like to see changes with pace from 65/70 as felt Leicester would be hugely vulnerable on the break.
He mentioned as well that there’s a lot of games coming thick n fast and be good to get minutes into the legs of replacements and those who start all the time have a bit of a sit down

Still coming back from a major surgery to be fair. If it's a Sam Field situation where the surgery 'fixes' the root problem and he stops having so many injury issues then I can be patient.
