I have no opinion of the potential new guy other than his track record, which is basically 71 games in the Israelli league and 2 1/2 years sitting on his arse in Germany . There is nothing there to suggest that he is any better than what we have already. It is strange that when we make a signing like this, this message board is usually full of people complaining about Sport Republic only signing players to loan out to Goztepe, Matteusz Lis had a better track record and look at the stick he got. But hey its Gavin Bazunu so lets applaud Johannes Spors for this one I love the fact that save percentage is brought up time and time again, this is not the greatest of stats, Viktor Johansson has let in only 1 less goal than Bazunu, but has had around 30 more shots to save. If Bazunu has 10 shots on target today, they could all be weak efforts that he stops easily, if he stopes them all then he will have made 49 saves from 72 on target and his save ratio will rise from 63.9% to around 70% in one game. In this table that takes a lot more than saves into account he is 3rd best keeper in the championship. https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/

This presumably means we have a better defence than Stoke, if our keeper has had 30 less shots to face. Yet our defence is often a source of your ire.

Nick sorry but McCarthy and Bazunu are nowhere near good enough. I study a lot of Bazunu and McCarthy. Bazunu is very weak at saving shots fired across him, take a look yourself and study the videos it’s glaringly obvious . He is good at reaction saves as is Mcarthy and he can tip a few over the bar as he did at Brum but we let in far too many goals and I can see why we are getting this keeper in .

One thing those stats do show is just how few saves McCarthy makes. I don't know where this myth that McCarthy makes more saves came from. No matter how bad you think Bazunu is, McCarthy is clearly much worse. He should have been released at the end of last season so that he could never appear for us again. https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/ [Post edited 2 Jan 14:51]

| Southampton Set to Take Keeper On Loan on 15:42 - Jan 2 with 483 views | 1ASIN12 | I’m no Bazunu fan and think hes not been good enough in the past , however this season he has actually saved a couple , the latest was against Millwall when he made him self big and blocked a shot that most of the crowd though was in . Fair play to him that was definitely a point gained due to him . Don’t get me wrong there are still lots for him to improve on but making more saves is one of them. | | | |
| Southampton Set to Take Keeper On Loan on 15:46 - Jan 2 with 479 views | kingolaf | For us to sign a keeper worse than Bazunu he would need arms like Jeremy Beadle. If this bloke has got normal length arms he’ll be an upgrade. | | | |

Bazunu's save percentage this season is 64.6%; McCarthy's is 56.5% . Bazunu also averages more saves per game, with 42 saves in 18 games, than McCarthy who's only made 13 saves in 7 games, yet McCarthy has been tolerated here for years. Of course, for a top goalkeeper it would be over 70%. Pity we couldn't have kept Ramsdale. I hope Peretz turns out to be good. [Post edited 2 Jan 16:16]

Here's a teaser for you, Dirk. Would we have been better off if we had kept Ramsdale,Bednarek and Onuachu? Ramsdale is a no brainer I know.

It doesn’t matter who is the best , they are both not good enough . We simply let in too many goals and they both make too many mistakes.
