Back to Mattfinish's original question and World Cup, I would love to see Europe boycott the World Cup. It would send a message to Infantino and all others on the FIFA gravy train that most people are fed up with the corruption.

The World Cup would be severely weakened without European countries.

Don't believe the propaganda. All wars are bankers wars. More people will die so they can effect a regime change and do a land grab stealing resources and money.

Spot on as usual Jelly.

That’s why nowadays those who cause wars never ever fight in them.

As for today’s game. Well done and good luck to all the fans that make the long journey.

I hope that you witness something better than the recent St Mary’s New Years Day bore fess.

It seems we are very keen to host the Women’s World Cup in 2035, so the chances of us upsetting FIFA are nil.

Would Burnham or Streeting really be any better than Starmer?

Burnham maybe. Streeting definitely not. To be honest it’s like do we play Stephens or Quarshie ? Both aren’t up to it.

Without knowing too much detail about this, is it a bad thing to remove the leader of a country where there is hyperinflation, people are starving and suffering? More than 80 per cent (just an number I have seen) of people there live in severe poverty and our government advises that no-one should travel there, as it is highly dangerous. As far as I am aware, there hasn't been any civilian deaths and all that has happened is that Trump has removed a terrible leader who just ensured all his people starve and suffer.

So it's not the fact that Venezeula has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, Russia, UAE, Kuwait and Iraq

Well yes, it is about that, but the people are also starving and fed up of the mismanagement of their country. Their people are celebrating.

I don't "support" Trump but I do support the ceasefire in Gaza, Venezuelan people celebrating because they hope they may no.longer starve and the attempt to stop.the war in Ukraine.

Who are the good politicians then?

In the meantime, several RAF Typhoon jets bombed Syria overnight with Starmer having recently pledged £160m in aid for the country.

It's a funny old world.

Trump is the latest puppet, but US has a very long history of effecting regime change - doesn't matter which party is in "charge", all answer to the oligarchs tune; Libya (2011),
Iraq (2003),Afghanistan (2001), Haiti (2004), Panama (1989), Grenada (1983), Chile (1973), Brazil (1964), South Vietnam (1963), Dominican Republic (1961), Congo (1960): Guatemala (1954), Iran (1953).

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

I've probably got a unique perspective because i actually have family in venezuala and a good friend - from southampton - that lives out there.

The venezualan people aren't celebrating, if you're basing that on videos you've seen on social media those videos are fake.

Most are incredibly cautious about what's happening, maduro (and Chavez) before him were dictators (chavez in all but name) and him being gone is a good thing.

But what's been done is that he's been removed and replaced by his vice president rather that the opposition who legitimately won the election.

Speaking to my family out there they're also incredibly concerned about what america plans to do next, the history of american interventions and replacement of governments in south america is historically disastrous for the people of those countries, and the idea of america running Venezuela could potentially lead to a civil war

This is an interesting thought....
When Putin invaded Ukraine, Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea and was even told that he had to donate the proceeds of the sale to those adversely effected by the war (although that is still being argued over).
So now Trump has invaded Venezuela - or at least, assumed control - , does that mean all US club owners in the PL will also be forced to sell?
If not, why not?

Because it's pretty unlikely the UK government are going to place sanctions on America, though i'm sure you know that

The eight million that left Venezuela under Maduro are probably celebrating, but for those left it is another period of uncertainty.

Whilst the Maduro regime is still in place, I don't believe either of the potential opposition candidates, Machado or Urrutia (Spain) are even in the country ? They probably also wouldn't return at this stage, given the authority that the Military still hold there. Removing the Venezuela' current government is more complex than removing Maduro.

Whilst I accept that the election was stolen from Urrutia, and the US clearly doesn't have a plan for what happens next, I am not convinced now is the time for change and bring Urratia back.

The logical and lawful approach would be to re-instate Urrutia, or hold fresh elections as soon as it is feasible and safe to do so. At the moment it looks like the US only want to deal with the former Deputy - Rodriguez. How long for is anybody guess.

The only that is clear is that Trump and his Cabinet do not have a clue what to do next.

Some of my family were those that fled under Chavez and Maduro and they're certainly happy Maduro has gone, but they're hardly celebrating right now as they don't know what comes next and they don't see it as a real change of leadership as the party is still in place.

Sadly it's not really a simple solution, or at least Trump hasn't made it one. Because if the legally elected opposition had been put in place instead it would've been considerably better.

But if the New York Times is to be believed that didn't happen because Trump didn't like that she accepted the Nobel peace prize

The response and plan going forward is the key thing isn't it. Maduro was a nasty dictator, and the vast majority of Venezuelans, many who are starving etc will be happy he has gone. I have seen reputable newspapers reporting celebrations.. If things improve (they couldn't get much worse than starving and no money in general life), then it's a good thing. Trump doesn't follow the rules, but it doesn't always mean it's a bad thing necessarily. We shall see if things improve or get worse for the Venezuelan people. I bet we wish someone would break international law, and kidnap Putin?

Trump doesn’t care about the Venezuelan people or whether they’ve been living under a nasty dictator. The only thing that gives him a stiffy is making money through control of strategic resources and geopolitical dominance.
American hegemony, Monroe Doctrine, Manifest Destiny, call it what you will. They’re not done yet.
Who will be next, my money is on the Canal Zone, followed by Greenland .Cuba is an old, irritating humiliation that needs to be put to bed.
They’re not content with sharing a continent, they want a hemisphere.
