RIP to Mr Southern Comfort

One of those fans that even if you didn’t know him (I didn’t really apart from the odd LSA coach in the past) then you still knew him as he was always there.

Used to go to all the youth games with Alan and his lovely crew. Then used to meet them for a few pints in the Western Arms up Ladbroke Grove.

Alan was a gent, a wise and funny man who was great company. He looked after me when I was a young fella and I'll always be thankful to him.

For the past couple of seasons Alan sat near me in the East Paddock wheelchair user section up until he recently went into hospital. He always had a friendly hello for fellow fans in that section. He will be missed.

RIP Alan.

Ah no what sad news. Alan spent a season or so sat in front of us in Lower Loft: we really started chatting after my Dad passed away and I was struggling with the emotions of him not being sat beside me watching QPR struggle on the pitch. Just talking to Alan and sharing his extensive QPR knowledge before during and after the game helped me a lot through those times. I missed him when he wasn’t there and it was great to see him return to games in the Paddock.
What an amazing supporter of QPR he has been: I truly hope QPR pay a fulsome tribute to him at the next home game. RIP Alan.

Another one of the real old school fellows who I've known since the early 70's has passed on. Alan was steeped in our history, our community, our club. He was West London and hoops to the core of his being and he will be missed. We'll all meet up by the railway tracks.

That’s very sad news .

Remember it well Brian.
What’s disappointing is that as young lads we didn’t interact with the small group of fans who came out to watch us and wasn’t encouraged too either. Makes me sad and regretful.

My favourite Alan story was a few years later . Away at a freezing cold Ricoh arena . The era of Mick Harford as caretaker and Tamas Priskin up front . Awful period . The team were doing a shooting practice warm up in front of the small but growing Rangers contingent.
They were awful . It was a match warm up but the shooting was truly horrendous and Alan just lost it with them .
He went off completely, effing and jeffing and calling them all useless ….well you know .

My son and I were completely gobsmacked initially and then just fell about laughing .
Not at him , but because he was absolutely right .
Yet I’ve never seen someone lose their sh*t so hard at a pre match warm up before or since . 🤣
It was so funny .

But he was spot on. Lost 1-0 and we were abject .

That’s a passion for you .

Rest in peace Alan .

Brilliant, Mart!

I always remember being at an away youth game, up in Norwich I think, and we were playing really well, having a great season and going for the league.

We went 1-0 up.
Alan "Well, I KNOW we're going to score again so they're gonna have to score three to beat us!"

2-0 up
"Well, I KNOW we're going to score....."

And this got funnier and funnier.

8-0 up
"Well, I KNOW we're going to score....."

We were in tears.

RIP Alan - I have to offer my fantastic experience of Alan - aside from sharing the touchline with him in the 90s at 11am youth team games ahead of home games (& sometimes away matches if the geography worked!).

I found myself (ok deliberately) in the west country for 2010/11 pre-season. Spent the day hanging around Torquays finest bars and eateries before heading up the hill walking to Plainmoor. Coming down the hill was Alan. We recognised each other and he was utterly convinced he was heading in the right direction. Having persuaded him that he 'misunderstood' we spent the next 30 minutes wandering in the right direction chatting about ………….

I can't remember the game, the score (the weather was glorious) but I can remember the stroll with him

What an absolutely fabulous, knowledgable and kind chap.

RIP Barnsey. An absolute legend at QPR. He had an absolute encyclopaedic knowledge of QPR. You could ask him about any game, any player and he would answer in seconds. Had known him all my life. He was very much Mr QPR. You’d be hard pushed to find a bigger QPR fan than him. He was home and away going back to the 50s. He was at youth games, women’s games. He just loved QPR. Many fans will have great memories of him. Up there now with all his Rangers mates including my old man as well as Stan and all the other legends of our club who are sadly no longer here.
