Is it time for it to be lifted.

I know but is it time to have the ban looked at in the UK in general. The hospitality "closing the curtains" rules are a good place to start. Life has moved on over the years.

Bad enough that you've got the prats who arrive late for kickoff or feel the need to go for a burger five minutes before half time now without adding the ones who can't go 45 minutes at the football without a beer.

It'll end up like the Rugby where people are up and down every five minutes waiting for someone to pass with three beers that they're trying not to spill.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Couldn’t agree with this more.

My all encompassing pet peeves at games are

People who can’t navigate a very basic numbers and letters system to find their seat
People who don’t understand games start at 3.00 and half time lasts 15 minutes
People who get up two or three times a half because they’ve out drunk their bladder

I don’t really want to add people going back and fore for pints

Sitting there with a beer for 45 minutes is fine and I’d do that myself. It would get spoiled by the people who go for a day out rather than the game, as you say, just like the rugby

Alcohol is available in the stadium before, during and after a game, its not about the availability its about the rules regarding consumption whilst watching a game. The current rules in my opinion are outdated and need to be changed. You can sit in some seats in hospitality and consume alcohol but when the game starts you can stay in the same seat but you must close the curtains/blinds, that is just ridiculous. As for drinks being spilt. In the last 12 months I have been a spectator at Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Athletics and been to concerts and no drinks have spilt on me. Most venues provide anti spill lids and cardboard trays to carry drinks if you are getting more than two. To summarise, personally I don't consume alcohol in the ground at all but I think the rules are outdated and the option should be available for those who do. Just integrate it slowly in certain areas like safe standing on a trial basis and see how it goes. It works in other sports and we should be doing everything we can to encourage supporters to come to live games instead of staying home and watching TV.

It would require a change in Legislation. Can't see that happening anytime soon.

There are silly little things like the hospitality curtain thing that could probably be done away with, but I certainly wouldn't support people being able to drink in the stands.

Can’t recall the name of the club but when you pay for a night in their hotel they close the curtains over the pitch even if you have a ticket. One guy was thrown out for leaving his curtains to his room open even though he was in the hospitality area and then in his seat in the stand.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

This is the area that I believe should be changed immediately, it just doesn't make any sense.

Absolutely pointless. In every respect.

As someone who likes watching international rugby then I have say ban the selling of the stuff during game time, too many times I’ve had to suffer soaking beer filled shoes because someone can’t seem to get enough down they necks and failing that the floor , the seats and everything else🤣

When we played Bury in “that” game, we stayed in the then Reebok Stadium hotel after it. i was imagining having a room with a pitch view and spending a “happy” hour there with the Mrs while watching the game! OK a happy 3 minutes then…

In fairness, pretty much all the objections are around people getting up and down constantly, spilling beer etc

Anyone who has been to a six nations game will know how regularly those type of things happen and how annoying they are.

But the ban is in place to prevent fans getting tanked up and fighting. I do genuinely think we’ve past that point now and while I don’t want to see drinking in the stands brought in, I’m not sure the actual reason it’s banned is valid anymore

1. Beer being spilled
2. View being obscured by people passing to get to the bar
3. View being obscured by people needing a piss
4. Drunkenness
5. Drunkenness leading to crowd trouble
6. Drunkenness leading to fighting
7. Leave it to the rugby. It’ll probably be banned at rugby soon anyway.

Just no need to be drinking beer at football. Anyone who can’t go 45 mins without a drink would be better off staying in a pub. Simply no need for it during the game. 🍻

Great post
Nobody needs to have a drink to watch any game
It’s distracting to leave anyway to queue for a salmonella sandwich and a bottle of urine
They seem to love it in the Proncipality stad
We will see them smiling for the cameras soon, bedecked on miners helmets red face paint and a daffodils hat even when we are behind by 50 points
“ support the boys”… just feck off

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

You are more likely to be hit by lightning than have a drink spilt over you in a football stadium.
