14 units a week. 22:12 - Jan 29 with 1800 viewscolinallcars

The Royal Navy has introduced a maximum of 14 units of alcohol per man per week whilst on board.
That won't encourage recruitment will it ?

Fortunately my selection of Navy Cut brought a swift end to my time as a smoker (two weeks!). Always fancied a spell in the navy but it put me right off.

May I recommend Senior Service instead? If at first you don’t succeed etc.

What Shall We Do With A Mildly Intoxicated Sailor?

To be fair though most gen z kids today don't even drink.

Millennial like myself probably burned the bridge with drinks and gen x are on 12 step courses to stop.

I think what you'll see is the navy will all be vaping.

But likely most of them are gym bros with zero personality and this neo-mullet hairstyle that young guys seem to have now.

What the hell guys?

The drinking prowess of sailors explained by a Spaceman. Sometimes, you just can't make things up on here.

Very interesting etc., but let's cut to the chase here: Are you doing the Cov match fred tomorrow?

14 units.

What was it before.

My first real proper job at Thames Water, was introduced to three or four lunchtimes down the pub and Fridays was a six pint lunchtime - MAD.

BT - We all had a 45 minute tea break morning and afternoon and 90 minutes lunch cards and dominos etc.

I wanted a decent job but not exactly overworked.

Not sure it did me much good. Became a bit too reliant. Now i rarely drink and feel much better for it.

But the workplace has swung in the opposite direction, most places drink is banned during the working day and could lead to disciplinaries or even let go and most people have a five minute break in trap four of the gents or ladies and sandwiches a staring at a screen if an office worker, whilst working to totally unreasonable deadlines.

Be interested to know what thats been reduced from, but how can they monitor that.

My first proper job was trainee computer operator at a life assurance company in the City back in the 70’s. The interview concluded with the Shift Leader asking if I drank and played football (they had a works team). I answered in the affirmative and was offered the job there and then.

The OP speculates that Royal Navy recruitment might be affected by the new 14-unit per man rule. But why not look on the bright side? Wouldn’t this provide new opportunities for an updated version of the press gangs, modelled perhaps on the noble methods pioneered by ICE in the USA? Every cloud has a silver lining.

On the whole I'd prefer it if the guys who handle our nuclear deterrent stayed off the sauce until at least they got back on land.
