QPR v Fulham 1973 23:57 - Feb 3 with 873 viewsqprxtc

My dad took this on his Super 8 camera.

He’s going in 93 now. Things are not great but he’s still here. Brother, sister, me are all Rangers. Thanks to our dad. Frank.

Was at that match as a seven year old clinging onto the perimeter wall in the paddock between the School End and the players tunnel. Won 2-0 and it may have been the promotion clincher. Fulham played in yellow shirts and Alan Mullery was playing for them. Happy days and a great team was blooming. Great film.

Lovely stuff, and great to see a bog roll being thrown when we scored.

I used to catch a 72 bus to games from Roehampton and the amount of spare ticket rolls that used to go missing while the conductor was upstairs was shocking.

Yep, I used to 'collect' bus ticket rolls from Kensal Rise bus depot. They conveniently popped into your pocket before a game to use in a moment of excitement.

Might even have been goal average that long ago.

My second game, taken by my future ex-uncle Paddy, though I had got glasses since the first and could actually see the ball. We were in the School End, and me and my brother went down the front and made monkey noises at Peter Mellor, Fulham’s peroxide blonde goalkeeper, because we thought he looked like a gorilla. Wot larks!

I was recovering from an injury but was due to play that day being at we were down to a bare eleven (plus the manager).

At 2.00pm I'm in the changing room in Chesham when an unexpected peron arrives . The next words I hear were what I wanted "Go on Terry, you've got time to get to Rangers".

I was in the ground before kick off. Just!

I'm just looking at my QPR V Fulham programme for Tuesday 25th April 1972 K.O. 7.30 PM.

Pretty sure It was a 0-0, Fulham's Number 6 was Jimmy Dunne, our Manager was Gordon Jago and our coach was Bobby Campbell, we were at the time Fourth In the league and Fulham were second from bottom.

Difficult for me to get to evening games after working (Three hour round journey) missed a few mid-week kick offs back then but from May 1972 we were on strike at work for about Ten weeks just as the bloody season was ending.

Phil Parkes In goal, Dave Clement right back and Ian Gillard left back, they don't make them like that anymore.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
