I though he was keen to leave?

I also thought It was mad him leaving.

He was only keen to leave because he wasn't being selected often enough.

I said in threads before he left that he was a very useful squad player and should stay.

I also told other fans that he would be missed when another injury occurs, and that has happened now that Madsen is injured.

I noted that Stephan didn't want to answer when West London Sport asked him about Field.

Just been checking Norwich results from February when Field joined them. 5 games 4 wins 1 defeat 4 clean sheets and 2 goals conceded. Seems their defence has improved. Wonder what our manager did not see in Field.

it's a cult!

Norwich mate here in the US telling me he’s playing really well and keeping the midfield connected to the team. What they were missing apparently. Field and McLean schooled the Leicester midfield Saturday to quote his mate who was at the game.

Yeah I thought that too. It was as if he wanted to speak his mind, but fearful of losing his job. Field going out on loan was not his idea.

And when asked about the injuries and whether training had anything to do with them he replied he is the manager (and possibly wanted to add not in charge of the training methods and programmes).

Madsen played every game because he’s been our best player and with Chair repeatedly injured we have nobody else creative to replace him.

………..and now we have none

Strong and stable my arse.

Stephan could have picked Field in the first half of the season if he wanted him to stay but he had him down as 4th/5th choice after the Coventry game.

When he didn't he created a situation where the player wanted to go and Nourry did the right thing by the player and let him go.

For me this one is on the manager

Well, unless the CEO/DOF has mandated that we prefer our developing players like Varane or Madsen when fit?

yes and no dave , varanna and madson are the cash cows for us this season allegedly, so my guess is they as it seemed must play at all costs , not saying stpehan would have played him but id guess some input from above made him lean towards playing other players due to putting them in the shop window. issue is now varanne is playing like hes in the discount isle of lidls , madson now crokced , obv no idea how long for . so that plans gone to shit.

id say our future isnt about getting results its purely now as a show window to make max value on players and pray we dont in future go down . we have spent the bank on edwards saito celar etc and now have to pray that we get some money back this summer or as usual its back to swaure one again.

He did start the season with Field though who was pretty awful the first 4 games and then left out. I just think the manager didn't fancy him. He picked to start once in midfield after Coventry when we played Oxford and he was poor that night.

if Nourry wanted rid of field then he wouldn't have given him a new contract last summer and that new deal probably means we get some money for him this summer

I like Sam Field but I'm not sure I'm buying that we'd be playing any better if he had stayed. A combination of Madsen, Varane, Morgan and Hayden should be more than enough.

I think this was more likely.
Madsen, because he was clearly a better no.6 or 8, than the 10 he was playing last season.
Varane , because it was hoped he would kick on from last season and be sold this summer.
Morgan, because he is being developed.

However, Field is also a sellable player and should have been given more playing time.

It wasn't a case of hindsight, but given how this season has been going, it was only a matter of how soon QPR would need Field. Varane was still out recovering when Field was loaned out.

I agree with you that it’s Stephan who doesn’t fancy him. As you say, Nourry gave him a big 4 year deal in May.

I disagree that we wouldn’t be playing better with him in the side. He’s better than Morgan, Hayden, and Varane in the “tackling, give it simple, defensive midfielder role because he works harder, is more physical, always available, and reads the game miles better out of possession. He also has standards when it comes to effort and work rate, which this team could desperately do with.

Our team needs players like him and Cook in it. It can’t all be young lads with potential but little game nous and experience, who are here waiting for their next move up the career ladder. You need a backbone, physicality, and players for whom this is their club. Field has been here 4 seasons, played almost 200 games, could be here another 4 and double that. Player of the Year twice (once Fans’, once the Players’). He is exactly the sort of player you should have in the the team regardless, even if you think you have someone technically better on the ball available. Because football is more than that. It’s a team sport. The whole team needs to function and players like him, Cook, Dunne, they help that. We should have 5 characters like them in the side every week, and 5 who are development projects, with perhaps one loan to bridge gaps. That is balance.

Maybe the club were hoping Hayden would provide that balance.
He should have more experience than Field, but in the last two matches I saw was found wanting.

Not sure where that chunky 4 year deal came from. I think its to do with Nourry not wanting first team players to run their contracts down?

Re Hayden, some seem to forget that by the end of his initial spell here, Field had regained his place in preference to Hayden.
