Tonda has explained in the past about his deep analysis of the opposition. It’s been described as a ‘Don Revie’ approach.
I also remember him saying that when he worked for the German national team, part of his job was to dig deep on the opposition in terms of the opposition country’s culture and customs etc.
I suspect the Saints’ line is going to be: yes, we did have a guy in Boro but he was there for this same type of ‘cultural’ research, rather than this simplistic assumption that he was there to steel tactical info.
The fact that Tonda is already on record about his approach will help.
EFL will conclude that this is not a simple ‘spying’ case but that maybe the individual involved crossed the line in some of his info gathering.
We’ll get a wrist slap but little reputational damage for Tonda or the Club.

Personally,if we sent someone up to check on their training,,tactics etc is it that bad?
Surely teams are watched for this all the time from people watching from the stands,tv etc.

Looking at what former Leeds players explained about the knowledge Bielsa gained from spying, apparently his understanding of who was in their line up was spot on every time. You can see tactics.

The EFL will surely be hoping we don’t go up. Middlesbrough and their “Gibbo” as they call him sounds like a right crybaby. He won’t let this go. If we don’t go up I think it’ll be a hefty fine just shy of a million and something like a two point deduction next season courtesy of the EFL.
