I mean if they did get relegated to L2 wouldn't it be just as easy for the Saudi investment fund to just buy a Champ club and get back to the Prem in a year?

I don't think they have any love for Man City, they are just the vehicle aren't they?

The City owners would have to sell City first before taking on another English club.

And also, obviously, if they bought a Champ club they'd face the same rules as everyone else - we're been butting up against the limit for years, it wouldn't make any difference if our owners had ten times as much money, they still wouldn't be able to spend it on players.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Nah, don't feed it, just treat it with the contempt it deserves.

Yeah, it would be ridiculous for the club to comment on dumb conspiracy theories.

I'm not sure what the value would be at that point, they may as well just liquidate its assets, I doubt they really care or need to get any money back out of it

"The independent Commission found that between Seasons 2009/10 and 2017/18:

- Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs

- The club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators

- Manchester City was significantly in breach of both the Premier League’s and UEFA’s spending limits

- During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League (three of the four alleged breaches were upheld)"

I can’t help but wonder, considering that chelsea only got found out by their new owners coming clean and City by a hacker based in Germany, how many other clubs are doing such things. Without those two chance circumstances the PL would be none the wiser re chelsea & City.

Poll: Who’s better?

This won't be overlooked when it comes time to decide the punishment:

Then they would probably fail the owners test if they tried to buy another club!

Man City still claiming it's all rubbish, they are in massive trouble here.
That is horrific.

I quite enjoyed watching their team as a neutral, played some great stuff but it's clear they did all that with financial doping, That whole decade is tainted now. Good job we ended up being shit really

Yeh. They didn't even say that about Paladini in the Faurlin case, who claimed to have a found a letter saying the whole thing was fine after all in the drawer of his desk about 20 minutes before the hearing.

The story Birmingham are telling, for instance, has never added up to me. Again, a new and rich owner pumping money in claiming absolutely ridiculous levels of revenue to justify it. They've had one limited series doc appear on Amazon Prime, otherwise they're the same shtshow Championship club they've always been.

Wrexham - you can see it. Multiple Disney series, United Airlines sponsorships, US tours etc etc. Birmingham I've been wondering about for a while.

Re Birmingham, Clive. Yes, very smelly. Have you any idea how close they are to building the stadium that you can see from the Cotswolds?

Jesus, it’s petty, but I really hope that goes tits up.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

IIRC in Man City's case there were suggestions the club and the sponsors all had the same owners, so plenty of opportunity to throw silly amounts of money around.

Birmingham City has attracted sponsorship from major brands like Guinness and Coca Cola, and those are clearly independent companies.

Birmingham (the city) is going through major urban regeneration, largely kickstarted by HS2.

Knighthead are riding the coattails of that and have significant backing from government and the local council to help fund their bigger project which is redeveloping the whole area around Small Heath. The football club is a major part of that but the project includes thousands of new jobs and homes and upgraded public transport.

Man City needed to pay silly money for Robinho to really get their football project taken seriously. Birmingham will probably need to do something similar in the future to crack the big time.

That's not to say the Birmingham City story isn't a bit too good to be true but so far all they have achieved is winning League 1. The Wrexham fairy tale has been running for several years already, and might have run its course unless they can make the step up to the PL.

The bigger mystery for me is why the West Midlands has largely been underachieving at football for over a hundred years. Second largest urban population in the country, four sizeable and historic clubs, and yet since the First World War they've won very little compared to the London and North West clubs!
