But North Battersea have somehow managed to get away with cheating. The £10million fine for the bribe to Eden Hazard’s agent to ensure he signed for them as opposed to ManUre for £29million and then they eventually sell him for around £120million is so laughable it makes you think that the PL itself is bent. To allow them the sale of their women’s team to themselves for £200million when that team owns no infrastructure or other assets and no doubt held a load of debts considering the level of support they receive being akin to an average supported league two club, could you ever imagine a team like Barnet being sold for the same sum? And then the sale of the hotels? Again to a company in their own umbrella of companies! The lack of proper sanctions against them has been an utter fraud in itself.

Most of what Chelsea has done is to the detriment of the players involved and to the league as a whole. But MOST of it has been within the rules, it's just totally against the spirit of things.

I wouldn't take Stefan Borson too seriously.

He was adamant Southampton wouldn't get a points deduction for Spygate. He blocks everyone on Twitter who picks holes in his arguments - I speak from experience on this matter :-)

Neither Borson or Maguire are litigation lawyers.

And to be frank, there is no direct precedent for cheating on this scale.

Oh yeah, definitely not the oracle. But also a better indicator of what punishment awaits than a (now deleted? Possibly phantom?) tweet from David Ornstein about what sanction Arsenal would prefer.

As you say, there is no direct precedent for cheating on this scale. However, one example of how seriously the breach will be punished - and why you can compare - is that Everton were docked eight points for two minor breaches of PSR, that they admitted. Man City have apparently been found guilty of seven separate breaches of FFP/PSR in the PL alone, as well as a further five tied to UEFA, none of which they've admitted.

When it comes, the punishment will be hefty. When/if it might be delivered, that's a bigger question.

That's all I was driving at when lassel proclaims it'll be a points deduction large enough just to curtail European future competition and a fine. No way could it possibly be just that. No PSR would ever be adhered to again if that was the case - and Arsenal (along with Man U/Liverpool) definitely don't want that.

There's a piece on the BBC website going through the scenarios as to how an appeal might play out and how long it might all take:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

The most interesting line is that the Premier League still hasn't issued any statement on this and that The Athletic leaked the story.

I wonder why the PL is keeping so quiet!?

Anyway, it seems this story will continue to run for a good while yet.

Agree with you about Chelsea.

Hope you are wrong about City.

If City get hit hard it’ll be for the FFP/PSR bit, that’s what Everton & Forest got stung on, chelsea apparently wouldn’t have breached FFP/PSR if they’d included their illegal payments in their accounts, which makes you wonder why they did it in the first place.

Poll: Who’s better?

I hear David Ornstein has been getting tons of flak from Citeh fans on social media. Talk about shooting the messenger

And I'm not the only one who thinks Stefan Borsan a bit of a clown.

I wouldn't go as far as calling him a charlatan, but he's a company lawyer and should stick to what he knows. He's no litigator

If the league required a published salary cap for each club it would, largely, prevent this kind of travesty. It's one of the few things North American major league sports (with exception of baseball) have got right. All salaries, and other contract details are made public.

Of course, moving players in and out of farm teams helps balance a squad's finances, and there are other 'work-arounds' but they're comparatively trivial. To my knowledge nothing the scale of this debacle has happened here since the "Black Sox" scandal in1919

We are still 2 years away at least from this concluding but my punishment would be a 30 point deduction and a fine and then repeat that for every season they cheated so this season the get -30 and are stuck in the Everton zone of no europe but probably won't go down, then do it again the next season and again. Doesn't relegate them but is far worse to have no chance of Champions League or winning the league.

The awkward question of it all is was this happening at other clubs before the rules came in which will probably be why other clubs won't be pushing too hard to open that can of worms.

Give them a transfer ban as well for however many seasons it was.

This gives an outline of what Man City were able to do as a result of their cheating.

And it doesn't take into account the players that City were able to lure away from their nearest rivals.

I honestly don't know what a fair level of punishment for this would be but a fine of less than the £42m we got and even one season outside of the PL and Europe doesn't seem anywhere near enough

Well almost inevitably they'll get a fine less than ours

Nine years, nine tiers.

I like that because it rhymes. They’d not going to receive a relegation punishment that fits the crime but I’d like to see them in League 2, though that will punish other teams who miss out on promotion as they come back up.

I mean if they did get relegated to L2 wouldn't it be just as easy for the Saudi investment fund to just buy a Champ club and get back to the Prem in a year?

I don't think they have any love for Man City, they are just the vehicle aren't they?

This is what I have always said.

Spend what you like, but GIVE the money to cover those expenses UP FRONT so that you are not putting the very fabric of the team you own in danger.

I mean that is how these financial regulations were sold to the smaller clubs.

Of course the reality is very, very different and it is actually all about keeping the top clubs at the top.

This should trigger massive change in the game, but it won't.

As with Spygate, there should be a clear framework in place outlining the rules along with what the punishment is for breaking those rules as opposed to this "fund the lawyers" shite that is playing out.

The FA spent the tail end of the Summer calling out Infantino as being "corrupt". So ironic as he is just doing what the Cash Cow League does every single f'in season.

It is tiresome.

Indeed, it's really not hard to figure out, but then the ulterior motive is to maintain the status quo and to try to hobble upstart clubs grrr.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Agree with that punishment relegating them would just make a mockery of the championship as they piss the league.

Clickbait/ragebait sites on Facebook now stirring schit that the Man City V QPR game should be investigated and it's all full of Man U fans frothing at the mouth but forgetting (conveniently) that losing at WIgan (Wigan ffs) a few weeks earlier, losing themselves at Man City a few weeks earlier, and twice losing at 2 goal lead at home to Everton to end up drawing the game cost them the title.

Just a better result in any one of those three games and they'd have won the title yet apparently it's all a conspiracy in that Man City v QPR game, a game where City battered us for 90 mins.

If, and it's sill a big if IMO, QPR did take their foot of the gas once they heard about the Stoke/Bolton game... so what. They don't owe anything to City or Utd, their responsibility is to QPR and the fans and once safety was secured they probably didn't give a schit about the game then.

Also none of those no-mark accounts watched us that season to see just how bad we could be! Definitely not inconceivable that we could throw away a 1-2 victory in injury time

I was lucky enough to be there . I remember the news that we had survived coming through several
Minutes before the end and our bench celebrating. Our players were aware. As no one wanted Manure and Fergie to win another title, hardly surprising we let our guard down . It made for great celebrations around the stadium. Most of the City fans there were still proper fans who had been to the 3rd Division and back.

I was lucky to be there too and in the upper tier not far from the black netting. One minute we’re getting slit throat gestures then a minute later they wanted to hug us.

Where I was sitting there were mixed messages, some people ‘hearing’ Bolton got a last minute penalty.

I’m glad we didn’t need a point to survive as could not see us getting out alive!

I think a lot of teams will feel they have a case against City now including us with their manager at the time they won against us on an undeclared double salary or something like that. Personally I think they should give us Pierce Charles as compensation and we'll say no more!

Just watched the NI game and Charles' passing was sublime throughout, including a 60+ yard cross field pass to his brother near the end. Wonderful keeper too.

Never knowingly right.

It was great that we stayed up and at the time my neighbour was this bloke Dan who was a) a Utd fan and b) a fking c*nt. So I was pretty happy with how the day went.

That said, I really didn't like being on the receiving end of history like that. It's like being the fighter who got famously KOed. Or being Barnsley to Trevor Sinclair's overhead kick.

The BBC football TV coverage used that winning goal as a soundbite for ages.

Also, who knows what the butterfly effect might have been if we'd won?

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.
