| Justin Obikwu 16:07 - Oct 25 with 2958 views | cpgerber | I know he has played for the dev squad recently - any reports on how he did? Its a bit like asking someone to describe the invisible man, but I am really keen to know if there is any prospect of him breaking through into the 1st team or why is he just warming the bench every week. Odd that he didn't get minutes against Derby or Swansea. Indicates to me that Kolli has played himself back into favour and his development is higher priority now. Assuming Burrell and Lloyd fit and firing by then, perhaps Obikwu should be loaned out in January. But who would take anyone on who hasn't kicked a ball in a year, so unless he plays between now and then, even that door is closed. | | | | |

| Justin Obikwu on 16:24 - Oct 25 with 2776 views | numptydumpty | It was a weird signing done in haste. Could not get in the Lincoln side where Alfie Lloyd was more favoured by fans. Never picked for dev squad or first team. Wonder what length his contract is. We always seem to have the need for one of these type signings in our squad. Suggests other issues, so hope the player himself is reasonably well in himself, but feel an agreement needs to be taken to move the player on elsewhere or compromise on a contract end, so all can move on. Can't see this player ever representing us unfortunately - whatever the reasons are. Everyone needs a clean break - I feel for the best of all concerned. [Post edited 25 Oct 16:29]

| Justin Obikwu on 16:32 - Oct 25 with 2724 views | bosh67 | He's only 22 and has been extremely unlucky with injuries so far. It may never happen for him here but on the other hand, anyone who saw him score his 'Wegerle v Leeds' style goal up at Bolton (albeit in the dev team) would have seen what he's capable of. Kolli 100% deserves his games at the moment but I wouldn't entirely write Obikwu off just yet and still hope he will come through and make a mark. | |

Are we actually sure he is injured though Bosh. Personally I think possibly we maybe looking at a Taylor Richards style issue as he is permanently, despite being fit and then instantly getting an injury. I very much doubt he will achieve anything here or even get onto the field of play. For me, it seems sensible to come to some kind of mutual agreement. Kind to both parties. Sad, but it does happen. Probably best for all though Maybe he can get going somewhere a little further down the food chain.

Lots of speculation throughout in your posts on this thread and it would make no sense to give up on a young player we paid money for only 9 months ago.

Yes But he picks up an injury that should be two weeks Is occasionally on the bench, only to have another injury, so we are told, which he recovers from, is on the bench again unused, then we are told he is injured once more. How do you explain that ?? Personally, would move on. The guy whose injury he was meant to cover, has been injured three times and returned from those injuries three times and this guy has still not come on. He was on the bench on Saturday. Perfect opportunity to give him a run out but wasnt chosen. Thats very strange. Not exactly a great stretch to feel this isnt going to work. Feel for him - yes - but how is this positive in anyways. Even if he does get "fit", he is fifth choice behind Burrell, Kone, Kolli and Lloyd [Post edited 25 Oct 23:04]

I agree with the Taylor Richards comment. It's liking more and more like that to me with every passing week

Certainly not writing off anyone, just really curious what the situation is and why he doesn't even get minutes in games we have long won and were a perfect opportunity to see him in action. Those were free hits for him. It could be JS "high standards" approach where he doesn't want to experiment at the end of games but rather give full gas and field the best team possible for the full 90... but I find it a bit strange, tbo. And no-one has seen Obikwu play in the dev squad either?

Madsen and Adamson both got a lot of game time. Obikwu has had none. Would tentatively suggest this is a different type of scenario completely. I wish the guy well, but if Obikwu turns into Charlie Austin Mk2, will eat multiple hats for the rest of my born days and please remind me of this post.

| Justin Obikwu on 09:17 - Oct 26 with 750 views | nix | I’m certainly not writing him off unless Stephan does. One think I’m confident about is that Stephan knows how to assess a player. Maybe not on day one but over time. I haven’t seen enough of him playing to even consider writing him off and I don’t think injuries are necessarily code for someone being a wrong un. Richards had history which is why we could be pretty certain about him. I also don’t think he was brought in as the finished product which is why it’s unfair to judge him on that basis. He’s more of the Sinclair Armstrong/Alfie Lloyd raw development player who needs time on the training pitch before he’s ready for Championship football. Like both of them and unlike most players these days he hasn’t had an academy background. So he is going to be raw. What he does have is basic athleticism and height. If he also has the instincts for football he could be a prospect. There are always conspiracy theories and Ramkilde is certainly the poster boy for vindicating them but it’s too early to label him Ramkilde Mark II. And if Stephan is protecting him until he’s ready then good for him. If he really didn’t rate him at all I’m not sure he’d even be on the bench. If it turns out he just doesn’t have what it takes then that happens all the time in football. But it still seems early days. | | | |

Agree with this! I think Stephan has shown that he can develop players. I wasn't trying to be glib with my statement, I was just trying to point out that I was happily giving both Madsen and Adamson pelters before and now one is out best midfielder and one is our best right back. There's still plenty of time for Obikwu to develop, though the injury record is certainly not the best. If Obikwu was a miss, too, then I don't think it's the end of the world. The transfer fee was punchy, but given that we have signed our entire fullback group for a total price of around 50k (Adamson), I think the odd miss is OK. But maybe I'm just feeling a bit too cheery after the weekend, idk
| Justin Obikwu on 11:01 - Oct 26 with 510 views | Myke | It seemed to be a bit of a panic buy at the time, a stop gap to fill Burrell’s long term injury. Remember at the time we were still well in the play-off picture and the Burrell/Kone relationship was very effective. For whatever reason reason it never happened, whether he genuinely picked up an injury before kicking a ball for us, or JS took a look at him in training and realised he wasn’t good enough (yet) for the Championship we don’t know. Silence and vaacumes always lead to conspiracy theories, even more so now on-line. IF we get our injured attacking players back - Chair, Burrell, Lloyd - and he is not getting a game when they are out , it does seem wise to loan him out in January to get him some minutes under his belt. On a human level, I feel sorry for the lad. Ironically, if JS had played Smyth in that Burrell role last year, he would never had needed to buy Obikwu in the first place. Not blaming the manager for this at all, he clearly knows his playing staff a lot better now than ten months ago. | | | |

Obviously we all hope Obikwu turns it around and makes his mark but having signed in January and not made a meaningful appearance in 10 months, it's difficult not to think that this signing isn't working out. I hope I'm wrong but it's looks like another one for the "stop signing injury-prone players" category.
