Racism and homophobia UK in crisis 16:00 - Jan 2 with 1024 viewsSaintsforeverj

So 3 people in a crowd of 30 000 arrested for homophobia and racism. Interestingly, a Brighton fan was arrested for being homophobic against a Chelsea fan. But can somebody answer a serious question: 10,000 Saints fans yesterday sang "Dele Ali, what a wan.. ker". Is that not abusive too? Or does it not warrent reporting on because it's not racist or homophobic?

What's a fact? 10 000 people shouting abuse at Deli Ali and the ref or 3 people being racist and homophobic?

3 is 3 to many being racist or homophobic. However standard abuse is par for the course. It's not hate speech. Theres a subtle difference in that every player on the pitch can be called a w@nker or a tw@t but digging a player out because he's gay or black or in any other minority is plane wrong

I totally agree with a lot of the modern sensibilities but things get a bit skewed where football is concerned.

Fans sing stuff at each other in order to get a reaction.
I've never been to a game where I've seen Brighton fans holding hands, or Liverpool fans scavenging bins looking for something to eat. Southampton isn't a small town in Pompey and not every Chelsea fan is a rent boy.
It's not supposed to be taken literally. But it seems that if one person in the crowd takes offence it must be banned. I'm with Ricky Gervais who says it's ok to be offended but that doesn't mean you are right.

Before I get jumped on I don't advocate monkey noises or throwing stuff etc etc but if we ban every bit of insulting behaviour then we all might as well go to the theatre and let the PC brigade have football and they can enjoy it in glorious silence whilst filming it on their phones.

Oh I see. So all other standard abuse is okay as long as it doesn't fall into the category of racist or homophobia. I wonder if the "homophobic" Brighton fan singled out an openly gay Chelsea fan in the away end and abused them for being gay or did he say a forbidden word? But we can call players wan...kers no problem.

What about singling out a fat person "You fat bas....tard". Is there a law for that? Or do they not deserve to be protected too?

What about 3000 Spurs fans signing "yid army" as well as their muggy "being a yid" song......how many of them got arrested?

This is exactly my point. They do it to get a reaction, to wind up the opposition team and fans. saying get up you pansie doesn't mean you hate gay people.,

If shouting abuse and calling opposition players or refs, well Dean, names too rude to put in writing is bannable, don't think I'll bother with any more games this season

Are you calling for more people to be arrested for saying that Dele Alli is a wánker, for people to ignore racism and homophobia or both?

I’m pretty sure you must know the difference between calling someone an idiot and someone a P**i so why pretend you don’t? There’s different levels of abuse and obviously some are less acceptable than others because they are predicated on things like race, religion, sex etc. Unless you’re really dense or ignorant this is obvious to most adults

My point is, why report in the news that 3 people were arrested for homophobia and racism in a crowd of 30 000 plus? If this needs to be reported to us all, why when fans sing you fat bas...tard, is that not reported too, when that is abusive and far more widespread? Are you saying that is not as important?

And do you think there was actually an openly gay Chelsea fan in the away end? Highly unlikely. More likely somebody used a banned word. Point being are they actually homophobic? Just like are people who sing against fat people, haters of fat people. It's just football banter.

Plus, is it okay that Spurs fans were singing "Chelsea rent boys" over the Northam bridge on the way back to the station and the Police did nothing? Is that not homophobic? Why were they not all arrested and the chant reported on in the paper? My point is about consistency.

And, I suppose my point is, are the real racists being dealt with - those that intimidate and hurt people? Or are we just arresting immature fans at a football ground looking for a reaction after using a "banned" word?

There was a large group of them going to Bittern station for some reason.

Brit - Paki. What's the difference?
They're both just the first four letters of the name of country of origin.
Both have been used in conjunction with the word 'bastard' and others, and yet I've never heard of the 'Brit bastard' version being touted as racist.
'Pommie bastards', never heard that being labelled racist either.
Just anything connected to black, paki or muslim.

Fat people are fat for a reason. 🍔🍗🌮🌯🍳🍥🍤🍣🍻🥂🥃🍾🍰🎂 if it don't go in it don't go on. You're not born fat, it's a lifestyle choice.
The same as you're not born an alcoholic or smoking a fag. If you're at a game & you get called names by opposing fans do you get upset? I don't. I give it back but it's just part of it but I'd never be personal about their faith, sexuality or race. But I'd call them a fat w@nker! Especially because they're saggy @rse couldn't catch me & it's their own fault they're fat.
If you're fat don't take offence. I've got a bit of a gut myself.

Is it racialist if a black calls a black a rude word? Is it racialist if a white calls a white a rude word? If I called you the milky bar kid as one white to another would that be ok?

"you're so northern, you eat off the floor". 100's of Southampton fans sing to Huddersfield fans about being northern, something they can't do anything about (not a choice). No reporting of this at all.

Portsmouth supporter John Westwood accused of being a sex offender, without any evidence. No reporting of this by the media.

Meanwhile an investigation about 1 person being racist at Spurs, finds no evidence of racism. A huge fuss was made.

See the problem we have? And just to be clear, my point is about consistency. In a football ground, lots of chants are heard against all sorts of people. We can't pick and choose which chant to report. They could all be equally offensive.

My point is, you will never stop football fans after a few beers saying offensive stuff. If you try to, then it has to be fair and consistent then.

Socialism - we are all equal but I am more equal than you.
