Yep, time to move on. Thanks for your service etc etc but time for a squad overhaul of sorts. Bertrand is feeling his age now & isn't the player he used to be. The PL demands a lot from a player & he hasn't got the engine anymore. You can't buy his experience of course, which we'll miss, but time to look for someone new... a younger Bertie if you will.
I think Ralph will be after several young, very promising players this Summer with an eye on the team gelling in a couple of season's time & aiming for Europe. He'll be hoping to keep the likes of Ings and especially Walcott (hence him being offered a contract & staying) in a bid to mix a few experienced heads to show these new youngsters the way. |  |

TBF to Bertrand he has been a great player for us. Recently he's looked a different player, gone are the days when he would get up the pitch at every opportunity. I remember watching him and Clyne the other side and we were very dangerous. Maybe Ralph has told him to hang back these days.
Anyway he was great. Rarely made a stupid mistake and was always a minimum 7/10 every week.
We can find someone more dynamic but we will miss his experience that's for sure.
Wonder where he'll go, Brighton? Brentford? Surely he won't go to a top half PL club. |  | | |

He will be a good signing for a top club as a bench warmer which is what I was hoping he would be here. As said it means we will be looking for 2 LBs now as well as a back up RB unless we find someone who can play down either flank. Stephens can fill a gap short term but really should not be a proper full back option. [Post edited 12 May 2021 20:31]

You have to have almost two teams within a squad that can interchange in the Premiership.
That's where Man City's success is rooted, they get an injury and ups steps another equally if not better player.
The Big Clubs can afford this, others like us cannot, mind you we have taken that to the extreme.
If you want to stay in the Premiership you have to invest in the squad.
