Skyped and Whatsapped friends and family.
Watched telly, unwrapped pressies and endured Britain's Got Talent at the insistence of Mrs k.

Just the two of us but we still managed to eat and drink way too much. I still can’t believe how rubbish TV is nowadays at Christmas. When I was younger the channels used to roll out their best programmes and specials at Christmas and it was always a struggle to work out what to watch (before the days of video recorders). Now we have multiple channels but struggle to find anything if interest. Ended up sitting through Micky Flanagan again last night which was funny but we have seen it before.
Whoever thinks that Eastenders and Mrs Browns Boys is quality Christmas fare should be shot!

Just the two of us, first time ever. The day started with ample quantity of sausage rolls, mince pies and a modern take on the traditional mince pie (sausage meat with sweet chutney in mince pie form). After a lifetime of shared christmas dinners, we have accumulated an ever longer list of favourites, so the plates are loaded up with twice as much food as normal, including plenty of roast potatoes, parsnips and also yorkshire puddings (her inheritance). As we usually stick to a ketogenic (very low carbs) diet, the subsequent carb rush along with generous volumes of Amerone red wine (what a bargain at £7.99 from Aldi, I've seen it advertised at £18.00 elsewhere) ensured that evening TV was largely missed as I took a 'short' nap. |  |

Given that most TV Christmas specials are filmed in the summer I imagine they were stymied by lockdown and therefore repeats were the only option. Apart from some silly posturing by Dawn French of course.... | |

Bit of a lay in and then took the dog for a 5 mile walk whilst the pork was slow roasting in cider (decided to buck everything normal and give turkey etc a miss). After the walk prepped the pigs in blankets and sausage stuffing balls and waited for the parents to arrive. Ate about 3 and then hit the cards and board games. I had to give up at 9pm as i thought it was past midnight so crashed on the sofa with the hound whilst the misses and parents carried on the games. All in all a cracking day considering the current climate. The best bit of all? Not many presents dished out as we all decided to give monies to foodbanks. Far too much s hit given out at xmas resulting in landfill. [Post edited 26 Dec 2020 20:25]

Merry Christmas Nick.
I had a quiet one. Normally split Christmas with family back home and down here, but had it at home. It was sound, nice food, loads of booze, loads of virtual calls via the portal, dog walks etc.
Telly was awful so had Only Fools and Horses on Gold and then watched Soul in the evening, highly recommend it. Boxing Day was 1917, Shrek 3 and Durkirk, with the Saints, Arsenal and Everton games on the iPad.

Was meant to work late on Xmas Eve but got the Track and Trace alert around 3pm telling me I had to self isolate till the end of Boxing Day due to an encounter with someone on 16 December. Sat on sofa for 2 days, caught up with Whitehouse and Mortimer, Ghosts and finished People Just Do Nothing. All were brilliant. Ref the TV observations, I agree, I can't see anything on ITV for the whole holiday period that I want to watch. Today's Sunday Times has an article criticising terrestrial TV for dropping an almighty b*llock when they had a captive audience this year due to no family/friends distractions for most of us. They point out how much ground Netfilx etc have made over the Covid epidemic, and ITV/BBC have done nothing to even attempt at fighting back.
The upside is that the Mrs re-did the TV deal, and now we get both BT and Sky Sports for less than we paid before. So PL football to the rescue for me. | |
