| Wake up Saints fans 17:40 - Dec 26 with 3517 views | Southamptonfan | Was Ralph the problem? Or do we have a cr@p team? Ralph got some good results with terrible players. The fans will soon see how sh!t we are, and that is and always was the problem. Ings sold, Broja gone, Romeu gone, Long gone, Hojberg gone need I go on. The club's owners, now and the previous ones have destroyed this club. What did the fans do, they just blamed Ralph. You didn't want Jones? Wake up. What did you expect with terrible unambitious owners? We were never going to appoint a good manager with that team. The problem is higher up. If Ralph had good players and they didn't keep selling our best players, he would have been good too. That team is totally f@cking sh!t and needs some.momey spent on it. Not f@cking 18 year olds who might be good in ten years time. [Post edited 26 Dec 2022 17:43]

Yes, we should have kept Ralph as we’d have definitely beaten Brighton today with him still in charge…. He was a decent bloke whose time should have been up in the summer.

Agreed. Jones is far less experienced than Ralph. Ralph made mistakes but many fans failed to see that the ultimate problem is the lack of investment in the team. How the f@ck is a failed Stoke manager, who has only ever achieved promotion from league one going to know how to save us from relegation from the PL? We are going down and it's the people at the top who are destroying us.

How Ralph managed to beat Chelsea with that team is a miracle. How he kept us up with all his best players sold again was a miracle. Today was one of the worse performances I have seen. Brighton looked like Real Madrid. We could get better than Ralph and Jones but we won't. The problem is higher up. Keep changing managers if you like, we did that plenty of times before Ralph arrived (the good ones won't come to such an unambitious club), but the elephant in the room is the terrible team on the pitch, put together cheaply by a load of naive, fantasists who think players from league one and man city's third team are suddenly going to win PL games. It's the cheap way that doesn't work. We are going down deservedly.

As with Ralph in charge, we’d of stayed up, but still finished very low, whilst with Jones in charge it not only looks like we’re going down, but also are gonna finish in stone dead last!

But that’s because our squad just got worse and worse, as the only area where we’ve improved over the summer was our defence, but our attack, goalies and midfield all stayed the same or got worse, hence why our results did under him. But he still got us the points, whilst Jones doesn’t seem like he ever will!

| Wake up Saints fans on 21:40 - Dec 26 with 2335 views | 1ASIN12 | Just because Jones might be the wrong appointment doesn’t mean it was wrong to sack Ralph. However the reason we are going down is the mistakes by the owners in the summer of 2022: The failure to sack Ralph.( and get a suitable replacement) The failure to sort out the keepers position The failure to sign a striker. The emphasis on signing youngsters. I’ve said before we’ve spent £60 odd million to have a worse team then last season. We would have be better off signing no one and keeping last seasons team together. we would probably have more points. [Post edited 26 Dec 2022 21:41]

Can you name a player that improved significantly under RH? I'm struggling.

We were top of the league at one point under Ralph. We beat some top teams including Spurs away and Liverpool at home. Ralph kept us up, despite all our top players being sold I hope you're right and we improve now he's gone. I suspect we will be even worse with an inexperienced manager. JWP, KWP, Stu Armstrong. Ralph’s time was up, but I think that these guys’ games all improved under him. Hughes often dropped JWP, but Ralph helped to get him into the England team. The club’s mistake wasn’t getting rid of Ralph, it was getting such a laughable replacement.

The replacement was predictable. It's all part of the same sorry story. What would Ralph have been like if he had Cancelo in defence and Kane up front? Every manager fails here, especially in the last few years. Selling all our best players makes it impossible for any manager. It's the board and owners fault.

Ings, Prowse, KWP, Livermento, Lavia, Parraud, Lyanco, Salisu, Vestergaard, Adams and I’m sure I’m missing out a few others as well! As yeah some may have improved less than others, and some may have already been pretty decent when we signed them, but every player I’ve named above have all improved under Prowse, and ether Gina from some unknown youth player, to one getting interest from the bigger teams or were just a regular average saints player, and ended up being one big important player for us playing regularly and also sometimes being sold to someone else. So not sure if you were thinking too hard there as I’m almost certain I’ve missed a few outta that list as well!

Yep Stu, forgot to mention him, but he’s another example of a player that’s done really well under Ralph! But for your second point I do get where your coming from, but we all knew that it was probably gonna be some championship manager or such who’d take us over (hence why I was soo surprised when it was being suggested that we were going for that South American equivalent champions league winning one), which is why sacking Ralph was a mistake as we weren’t gonna do any better and where only gonna waste more money on terminating his contract as well as all the money involved in getting whoever took over to sign his. | Wake up Saints fans on 22:40 - Dec 27 with 1393 views | DorsetIan | If the logic of this thread is: Saints were only ever going to get a sh1t manager, so they should have stuck with a manager who had clearly run out of steam, shouldn’t we all just throw in the towel?! I’m looking forward to the end of January. We can judge Jones on 4 more PL fixtures against teams we should hope to compete with, we’ll know if we’re still in either cup, and we’ll know who’s gone and who’s come in. Until then, I’ll be hoping that Jones can work some magic in the next game.

The logic is that those thinking getting rid of Ralph would lift the clouds were wrong. The team is terrible, caused by decision makers way above the manager. Saints fans should turn on the ultimate problem makers at the club, and that's the people above the manager. Mr, I would rather be with the family than get paid to watch matches, Semmens who chose these current owners should be getting the brunt of the fans' anger, along with owners who just want to create a factory of young players passing through on a conveyor belt. They will destroy this club. I know for a fact that Ralph asked for a striker and they didn't get him one. They promised they would. So what can any manager do if he doesn't have any strikers to score goals for you in the PL? Ralph wanted Broja signed up earlier on, and they didn't do it. We have a new manager with zero PL experience, zero experience of relegation battles, a manager who failed at Stoke and then a manager who presided over two of the worst performances I have ever seen (Lincoln and Brighton). I'm judging those facts I'm afraid. We could have had a much better replacement, but I was one of those who knew that Ralph's replacement would probably be worse because our owners are f@cking idiots. Those saying the players were better and just weren't playing for Ralph, again were seeing things wrongly. The team is sh!t, has had all it's best players taken and has been ripped apart by successive terrible owners. The same players making mistakes and missing easy chances for Ralph are surprise surprise doing the same things with a different manager. They are useless players, so I wouldn't expect much to change. [Post edited 27 Dec 2022 23:25]

In Ralph’s 4 years he never beat Brighton at home or for a goal or point at Liverpool. So we would still be bottom this morning. As for the players you say he improved. How did he improve Tino? Tino was a young player that came in and played with no fear. By Christmas time that had been coached out of him and he didn’t look the same player at all.
