I wasn't convinced about this style of play but willing to give Manager and team benefit of doubt, but when we can only muster 3 attempts on target with 75 % possession, and Gillingham can create the same with 25%, something is not right. [Post edited 8 Aug 2023 21:28]

I think we have been lulled into a false sense of security by that late goal against Sheffield Wednesday. They are losing at home to Stockport tonight and may very well turn out to be the worst team in the Championship.

Already looking like the possession game is not going to work but the conceding of goals will carry on as normal.
But hey, let's bring in a goalkeeper that let in loads last season as back up to a pair of error prone keepers we already have, and persist with the same type of play that failed to work last season with Gillingham easily dealing with it and winning the game.

How embarrassing.
All 3 goals come from Set pieces, we have been dreadful defending set pieces for the last 2 seasons why has it not been sorted.
We have a very small lightweight team & will get absolutely mullered in the Championship against opposition that have big physical players.
This possession football is non productive & the players (& us supporters) will soon get fed up with it. | | | |

That team was full of last year's failures: Mara, McCarthy, Djenepo, Lyanco and a few young players who wouldn't have fancied playing a physical team on a wet Tuesday night. A game like tonight involves matching up to physically strong players. That young 17 year old, would obviously have been bullied off the ball by Gillingham's first team.
Forget the game, put it to bed. Let's not overreact. We were never going to win the cup anyway and we don't want loads of extra games. It might be a kick up the @ss to say that we mustn't be complacent and some of players (those mentioned above should never be near the first team). [Post edited 8 Aug 2023 22:09]

I’m tempted to say we need to give the manager and the new style of play time, but if a team like Gillingham can work us out, it’s going to be another long season.
