Returned to his club but apparently training with the reserves pending an imminent transfer. Hope it’s us. He is quality and a good age so will still improve further in ability and value.

I have no empirical evidence to back this up, but it always seems to me that the transfers that drag on and on never seem to get over the line. Obviously there has to be loads of behind the scenes activity going on for every transfer, but when you compare the Sainsbury saga to the German lad...

Think we were the only ones interested there.

Kind of got that impression though, when Mr Brolly started talking about the loan market in his post match interview

His agent says “We’ve agreed with a club and its subject to a medical.” Doesn’t mean it’s PSV - it could still be us.

You just hope the club didnt bank on him signing. Hopefully they have a few other targets in mind. We desperately need some more cover at the back before the window closes.

However, as disappointing as it is to see him go elsewhere, at least the club have a financial structure in place and players either take it or leave it. I think that is positive going forward.

A great opportunity to sign someone that would have been really good, but missed due to us fckin about. Annoying, also means we're under a lot of pressure to find an alternative in the next 36 hours.

As a fellow Oz, I hope he made the right choice. There are five other centre backs already at PSV with all bar one signed well past this season. So, that means he will have to spend the first few months proving himself in breaking into the team. If he doesn't do that, then this may be a rather poor decision, especially given the need to have playing time prior to the Asian Cup in January next year. I just hope he has not gone for the "Champions League" carrot on the stick.

Mind you, with now six centre backs, perhaps we could get one on loan?

Harsh. According to the article horshamHoop posted above, what freed up the process was the "players' union" paid out his Chinese contract (I don't know why they were so generous). Unfortunately this happened after PSV became interested and we were always going to lose a bidding war with them.

At no point did I think he would actually sign, given his career history I always had the impression that we were his plan b and he'd rather go elsewhere for the money or the prestige of playing for a big club. In the end he's gone for the prestige of PSV which makes sense as Van Bommel is coach there and will know him from their time together with Australia. I just hope we didn't miss out on others whilst trying to sign him.
