I noticed today that Michael Ball finally met Captain Tom Moore in his garden two metres apart. Am I missing something? Many of us can't visit our parents and grandparents but Michael Ball can pay a visit to Captain Tom. Personally I think it would be quite safe to visit parents in a garden setting, but we need consistency.

I have started visiting my parents in their back garden. I've also built a boozer in my garage which from this weekend, I intend to start inviting a mate round from time to time.

When Boris announces the next phase on Sunday, he absolutely has to loosen the lockdown to allow close friends and family to see each other, otherwise the nation will just do it anyway and some...

Putting up a bar in your garage is a bit sad imo.

Why is that Dunce? It's very classy thanks, using reclaimed pub furniture, Moretti and Heineken draught on tap, with a selection of spirits on the optics. 60" TV as well showing Sky Sports. It's fantastic, I was thinking of inviting you round for a Saints game but I'll have to reconsider.

I would say that with no pubs worth their salt being open in the foreseeable future, it’s far from the worst idea to have a bar at home.

Exactly. I would recommend buying a Blade if you are a lager drinker. https://uk.blade.shop/

Every bit as good as a pub pint, if not slightly better as each keg has its own lines attached so always clean.

I’ve been thinking about doing this. I love going the pub with my mates but by and large can’t stand the weapons that frequent pubs. This seems like a good compromise.

I fully recommend it. I am a 4-5 day a week pub goer and have been all my life. It's where I socialise so I've been finding them being shut one of the most difficult parts of this crisis.

Having a home poured draught pint of beer definitely helps.

Does your garage/bar have an en suite dunny or do you just step outside and sprinkle the geraniums?

It looks very good Stubo. What sort of cost and time did it take? I think it's a very good idea. We have a fairly large garage which is split into two, both sides are a dumping ground at the moment. The previous owner of our house used one side as his office, so i could fairly quickly clear it out and turn it into a gym + stick a squat rack in there maybe.

Sounds ace. Get some photos up on here, in need to inspiration. I have a summer house, which has a hot tub but I use the house part as an office, which is rubbish to work in so a bar would be a better option.

Cheers mush. I spent a bit more than I should have but roughly:

The Bar - £350 handmade from eBay.
The Blade ( draught beer machine ) - £500 ( Kegs are about £30 each for 14 pints )
Flooring - Used gym flooring from Big Dug which was about £250
Bar Tables - < £200 all in.
Draping ( Covered the walls with draping as opposed to putting walls in as intending on moving towards the end of the year so didn't want to do anything I couldn't take with me ) £80

Do you really go that much?

I barely ever go to a pub - can't stand them. Overpriced and full of bores who like their own voices. Haven't missed pubs at all.

Yes but not for more than 2 pints in most cases, after work pint with mates the majority of the time.

I'd rather meet mates in the pub than have them round my house FFS.

I suppose the difference also is that when I finish work, I just want to get home away from the dump that is London and the crowds and see my family.

Yeah - we've got a garage that is 2.5x as long as a standard single garage. I am in the process of getting to raise the roofline, new roof and split it in two.

The front portion would be a standard garage depth, the other portion would be a new study and a room for my treadmill etc. With either new glass doors at the back, or knocking through to put a door in from my dining room. As I've already got a separate family room I also want to lose my study - take the wall out between the hallway and existing study to make it a massive entrance hall with clever storage and seating.

I'm a mug for building work, but it'll finish off our ground floor nicely. Upstairs would be next ...
