Extinction 11:19 - Sep 15 with 1601 viewsSadoldgit

No one has mentioned the David Attenborough programme the other night about what we humans are doing to the planet. It made for pretty grim watching. Nothing new, but the timescale is frightening and the legacy we are leaving for the next generation is disturbing.

This pandemic has given us a golden opportunity to stop and take stock of the way we live our lives. It is clear that massive changes need to be made if we aren’t going to f*ck things up for good, but all we (governments) seem worried about is getting back to “normal”.

“Normal” is what got us to this point in the first place. Perhaps “normal” is not what we need to be aiming for now?

Was the programme wrong about the last two white rhinos? Was it wrong about the rate of deforestation and its effects on biodiversity?

Soppy spends his entire waking hours filling up nappies. You can just image when he was at Wapping, the lads saying “Christ Soppy’s forgot to put his nappy on today” as he leaves a trail of sh1t and p1ss behind.

As a whole this country and most of Western Europe is doing its bit pretty well compared with China, USA, India, Russia.
The continued population explosion in the developing world is the big disaster as well.

I'm doing my bit by ordering a new hybrid car in a few weeks.

I can sleep soundly at night.

This.

There is LOTS more we can do, but it's a drop in the ocean compared with the lack of care from China, India and others, like the knob head in charge of Brazil encouraging the burning and destroying rain forests.

It's about time we had a go at these countries who are making it far worse than we are. But hey, 10p plastic bags, that'll help .......

I looked (albeit very briefly) at pure electric cars but A: they're expensive & I just know I'd get 'range anxiety'... and B: the infrastructure for recharging them is totally crap!

On the other hand, we could all try and avoid buying palm oil products?

I wouldn't even know how to go about that Chesh. WTF is it used in? I'm sure the ordinary man in the street wouldn't have a clue either!

I guess a Hybrid is OK if you do a lot of short journeys.
If your journeys are longer the petrol motor kicks in and the MPG figure goes down and the carbon emissions increase.
If the Green lobby get their way Hybrids will be banned in future and that's why I am not looking to buy one now having thought it was a good compromise.
