| Britain to become the pariah of Europe, not just the EU on 01:12 - Dec 11 by Bison | They may of led some but I have not changed my view about Europe in 25 years. I am older than some of them or st least shared primary school with them, so in your view am I a right wing nutter ? Am I allowed to just dislike the setup ? Feel no solidarity with the French or Germans ? Get an uneasy feeling about their motives ? Watch Eurovision and watch them hate us ? ( lol ) If you want right wing just go back 80 years, don't tar the average Brit with that brush. And patriotic you are not , I get the distinct feeling you want us ( as a country ) to fail so you can say I told you do. It won't happen , I trust the British people a lot more than you do. |
Do you know what? Political arguments are not worth it. Nobody is ever going to change anyone else's political views on here no matter how many times they try. I'm just going to delete my posts with political content. We are all Saints fans, which is why we post on here. [Post edited 11 Dec 2020 1:31]

| Britain to become the pariah of Europe, not just the EU on 20:37 - Dec 10 by DorsetIan | Don't talk about democracy please. Nigel Farage has been pretty quiet about his friend Donald when it comes to insisting on the sanctity of votes! To people like Trump, Farage, Cummings, democracy is just a game to be played. I see the UK heading down a crazy path that a majority never wanted - that's what democracy means to me. |
We are about to be finding out what “taking back control” really means. Higher prices. Many businesses going under. Job losses.Months and maybe years of chaos as we sort ourselves out (days left and still no plan as to how we go forward). Yet in our day to day lives nothing will magically change in our lives (apart from the colour of the passports, whopper!) to make us feel anymore “British”. One of the biggest markets on the planet is right on our doorstep and we are going to be outsiders. Little wonder that sane people around the world shake their heads in bewilderment at us. We were on holiday in Crete when the vote to leave was announced and were the only British people in the hotel. For the next few days we had a constant stream of people coming up to us asking us what on Earth we had done. Even the locals on the town would make a point of asking us about it. No one could understand why we would possibly think it was a good idea to go it alone. It must be apparent to everyone that this government haven’t got a clue about how to take us forward in this Brave New World. Those like Rees-Mogg have been future prodding their family fortunes abroad but not one of them has a semblance of a plan about how us normal people will deal with life after the EU. We will still have a Queen. We will still have a PM and our own elected government. We will still be Europeans no matter what anyone on here thinks. What we won’t have is easy access to a massive market and a say in how that market operates. It is my children and their generation I feel sorry for. They don’t want this but will have to live with the consequences. We are about to find out what the meaning of “it is better to be inside the tent pissing out” really means.

All the decisions in the EU are made in Berlin and Paris. Soggy, you made some fair comments but it’s time UK was governed again by its elected MPs (& put an axe through the Lords; bishops, failed MPs, establishment luvvies)

Don't do that Dirk. Although it might not seem so, these 'conversations' are important. I have a much much better understanding of the 'leaver'/anti-BLM type view than I did when I came on here a couple of years ago. Even if we don't agree, at least understanding where everyone is coming from goes a long way to avoiding the ridiculous levels of polarisation and personal animosity that have characterised the last few years in this country. Look at the US - we really don't want to end up where they are now.

| Britain to become the pariah of Europe, not just the EU on 15:29 - Dec 11 with 1018 views | kentsouthampton | So to be clear Johnson wants tariffs on our entire output just in case the EU at some vague point in the future decide to put tariffs on some random products. That has to be the most mental proposition ever from a prime minister, anyone who supports this is as batshìt as he is. | | | |
| Britain to become the pariah of Europe, not just the EU on 16:16 - Dec 11 with 1000 views | Saintsforeverj | At the end of the day, there is nothing any of us can do about it, whatever happens. The country voted to leave. Theresa May had a deal and MP's on all sides voted it down. Boris then took over when there was chaos, promised an oven ready deal, but to think that the electorate didn't have an inclin that no deal might happen and that they thought Boris never told lies, is an insult to the electorate. They knew, and they still elected him. Maybe in hope, but they knew. Labour at the time could have provided stronger opposition. They insisted on Corbyn leading the party when he was unpopular with many and so there was no alternative. The country voted to leave in a referendum. The country elected Boris by a landslide, knowing he had lied in the past, and that a Tory victory meant Brexit. So we can blame the electorate, Boris, Farage, Labour, MP's for voting down May's deal, Cummings or the EU until we are blue in the face. But it's happening, no matter what we say on here. Let's get on with it and try to make it work. [Post edited 11 Dec 2020 16:17]

Nor was the recent demand by the EU that our COVID recovery fund could not be exempt from the level playing field and any related dispute would have to be sorted by the European Courts. How unfair is that?

There is no right r wrong in this issue Bazza, just a desire to be part of the EU or not. Sadly it is not something we can compromise on. A soft Brexit might placate the Remainers but won’t satisfy the Leavers. You can see how the country became divided between the Royalists and the Parliamentaians in the 17th century. People are passionate on both sides of the argument and both sides need to understand each other and respect the different views. Like Ian I have come to understand the Leavers mindset better over the last year or so. I will probably never change my mind about what I think is best for the UK, but neither will they. It would be a lot easier to swallow if the proportion of the difference was greater, but it is what it is. It doesn’t look like there will be a deal as both sides have their “red lines”. We have to hope that at some point in the future we will be able to reach a better deal than the WTO one as it will not be great for either us or the EU. Whatever the future holds for us in the UK, we have to live together and it is better to do so without rancour. It is heartening to read that is a shift now beginning and a willingness to discuss things in a more conciliatory manner. As Dirk quite rightly said, we are all Saints fans and that gives us some solid common ground. I fancy us to beat the Blades 3-0 with barnstorming performances from Ings and Adams. COYR
| Britain to become the pariah of Europe, not just the EU on 09:52 - Dec 12 with 798 views | DorsetIan | I do think more and more ‚remainets’ are getting to the point of: ‚OK we are where we are, let’s just get on with it now‘... ...but it would be a lot easier to adopt this view if Boris etc could stop all the posturing now. It’s not an ‚Australian style deal‘ it’s not a deal. We aren’t going to be at war with French fishermen. The EU is not being ‚unreasonable‘, they just got their own position to protect. Accepting reality cuts both ways. Let’s get on with it, but let’s be honest and grown up about it too. | |

I agree. Headlines about sending in gunboats are not helpful. The is going to be a hard enough period of adjustment, deal or no deal, as it is without inflammatory sabre rattling.
