I was going to post it as it's on Youtube but it would be a huge spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the film. I'm amazed it slipped through the censors at the time.
Absolutely superb film. Incredibly funny, superb script adapted from Chandler's equally superb book, great acting, great mood and.....Lauren Bacall!

There's a great article on the movie in a book called Future Tense by John Brosnan including how the "special effects"(smoke bombs) almost ruined the Chelsea Flower Show with HM the Queen in attendance.
Battle of Algiers - on one of the streaming platforms for free This Sporting Life Couple of French films from the 50s by Henri-Georges Clouzot, later remade by Hollywood: Le Salaire de la Peur/The Wages of Fear Les DIaboliques/Diabolique or The Devils Can't comment on the remakes as I haven't seen them, but the originals are sensationally good.
I might be in a tiny minority, but for reasons of family history I absolutely loathe "It's A Wonderful Life", can't bear to watch a minute of it.

The Blue Lamp (1950) featuring Jack 'Dixon of Dock Green' Warner and Dirk Bogarde. Great shots of pre-Westway Paddington, Ladbroke Grove areas and climax features the old White City greyhound stadium. Going off on a slightly different tangent the son of the wonderful character actor Sam Kydd (is there a black-and-white film that he didn't feature in?) was talking about his dad on Sky Arts recently. Sam had ambitions to be a professional footballer when he was younger apparently and actually had a trial for QPR!

Sam was well known around the Bush back then and used to sign on at the Labour Exchange just along from the Palais when he had no work.
