Spend £30 million this week, keep Che, and we could win this League 07:37 - Aug 22 with 5817 viewsPatfromPoole

A commanding CB - £12m
A striker who will score 20 goals - £18m

I know that Nick will say that Adam Armstrong scored 28 goals for Blackburn, but he seems to currently be playing in a more withdrawn position, as Martin seems to favour a direct striker plus a deeper player, so I don’t see him repeating that unless he reverts Armstrong to a No.9.

If we sell Che, we will need 2 strikers.

Otherwise we run the risk of injuries ruining things.

I actually now don’t think we will sign Piroe.

I think Martin sees Adam Armstrong as his equivalent.

I think we will go more for somebody with a bit more pace (which Piroe lacks) and / or aerial ability (which Piroe also lacks).

Piroe is more of a MLT type; a very skilful player who is a brilliant finisher.

Shame, as he would be a brilliant watch.

Though it might be an option to have Piroe playing behind Adam Armstrong…..

How many commanding CBs, who can also play out from the back and match the SR transfer blueprint are available for £12m? I would suggest none.

As for strikers, if Che goes we'll get someone, but the way transfers work these days, it doesn't tend to work out unless the club have been laying the groundwork for a long time. It doesn't look like the club have had a plan for anyone else, so if Che goes it will be a scramble just to get someone. That will probably be another SR type youngster.

Saints Web getting in a tizz about Adam Armstrong supposedly selling his gaff in Winchester and buying somewhere up north.

Why do all Saints players seem to live in Winchester?

As it stands as i said a month or so ago, we have 3 strikers with a track record in the Championship, Adam Armstrong, Adams & Tella, if they all stay we don't need to buy, as is being shown at the moment, as we have options in all areas.

We also have Sekou Mara who I think can score at this level, given his record is better than Tella's in the Premier League and we also have Dominic Ballard chomping at the bit and the option of using Alcaraz as a striker who again assuming he stays will get into double figures easily.

Scoring goals isnt our problem, conceding them is and the big issue here is the centre of defence, we need to ship out Lyanco and then bring in two players

So as it stands we have 5 out and out strikers plus one who can play there, that is a big number for a Championship club

Over 3 weeks we've gone from finishing 17th to winning the league. It's amazing what 2 late winners and a late equalizer do to morale

We could still finish 17th 😉

It’s a crazy League.

What happens in the next 10 days will have a massive influence on where we finish.

If we sell players, we have to recruit a heck of a lot more wisely than last season.

Ah ok. So all we need is:

A commanding CB - £12m
A striker who will score 20 goals - £18m

The record transfer fee EVER in the Championship is £15m so we need to go out and substantially smash this record AND THEN also buy a CB who would be the 4th most expensive player ever in this league.

Easy really isn't it!

Where exactly is this money coming from? (Hint: it's not the transfer fees we have received this Summer, that will be used to fund last seasons lunatic £160m net spend relegation push)

What you are saying would be the equivalent of saying, in order to have a good season in the PL, all we need to do is buy a £75m striker and £50m CB!

We actually recruited quite wisely last season, Lavia & Bella Kotchap were good signings and so was Charly Alcatraz, the issue was the changing of managers, in the second half of the season we were lions led by donkeys.

A big part of the monies comes from the support shown by loyal fans like you when they go to games.

Textbook Nick. In days of yore when we DID recruit wisely you did editorials over the failures like Forren and Mayuka but are now strangely quiet and very defensive of the club.

We recruited wisely last season must be the most idiotic thing you've said for a while (high bar too)

We had a net spend of +£160m to be by some distance the worst team in the league.

Lavia was a good signing. So was Alcaraz. ABK wasn't. He did little for us and we'll do well to get most of our money back (as we did with Forren lol)

What about:

Sulemana - £23m
Shite Paul: £16m
Bazunu - £12m (could have got Sam Johnstone on a free)
Mara: £9m
Caleta-Car £6m
Edozie £6m
Larios £5m
Orsic £4m
Bree 850k

How about some editorials on that lot?

Be serious Nick, you can't really think we recruited wisely last season. Even you aren't that deluded.

Because they are far too nouveau riche for Romsey and far too common for Chandler's Ford.

Stewart is unlikely to play for a couple of months due to his snapped Achilles he is still re-habbing?

A hope is all this is, but, given he's been holding out on a contract extension I wonder if he falls in the "injured" bucket. We've got a couple of those "injuries" (ie Sulemana) who will likely make a remarkable recovery should they get a move to a premier league club.

As I said bit of a long shot hope but maybe he's closer to fitness than it's been revealed (also how could he go through a thorough medical if on crutches still???)

To the OP that said we need to spend £30m in one week, it's interesting to see that, to date, for the whole window we have spent £10m on one new signing. (along with 4 loans and 3 free transfers).
