Just trying to think if every town in the Championship can boast a decent band/singer etc.

Hull obviously had the Housemartins, Leicester had Showaddywaddy & Kasabian and Coventry the Specials, but struggling a bit after that

Are The Reytons from Rotherham? Pigeon Detectives from Sunderland and Futureheads from Middlesbrough?

Although he was born in Surrey, Eric Clapton has been a well-known West Brom fan for more than 50 years, featured his West Brom scarf on the back cover of one of his albums, played a concert before John Wile's testimonial at the Hawthorns, has sponsored games there and at one time even tried to become part owner of the club.

The Reytons are indeed from Rotherham.

And a most excellent band they are too.

Most cross with myself that I didn't think of them before.....

Poll: Does anybody think Saints can get promoted this season?

Stoke have Slash from guns and roses surely?

For southampton at least one of the artful dodger isn't from Southampton (and the other one wasn't responsible for the music).

But we have Will from Coldplay, Band of Skulls and the Delays (recently)

Also the mod band The Fleur de Lys were sotonians too

Also bit of an outsider one, Roger McKenzie aka DJ Wildchild is from Southampton, unlikely to be massively well known on here as i get the impression most are guitar band types, but he was really influential in the early drum and bass scene, and i reckon probably everyone has heard of this track at least

I used to be friends with Roger back when we went to Glen Eyre School in the mid 80s.
He went to Deanery before they shut it down.
Great lad.
He used to impress us with his body popping and moon walk moves.
Always ahead of his time .
Sadly he died only 25 years old of a heart attack .

Fred from 90s indie band Family Cat came from Soton. He wrote the brilliant song Steamroller about the Saints and criminally we never adopted it.

Surprised no ones said it yet seeing how he was even their owner at one point, but Watford have Elton John

Eric mentioned him last night.

FA Cup Rock Stars - as we played Walsall, I offer:

Goldie
Noddy Holder
Stone Broken - excellent up and coming rock band

Not sure if any of them support Walsall though !!

Noddy Holder is famously Wolves isn't he?

Given we're playing them on saturday, Sheffield Wednesday have Jarvis Cocker of pulp and Alex Turner of the artic monkeys.

As I said, I'm not sure if any of the artists I mentioned support Walsall, but Noddy is definitely Walsall born and bred.

Keef Hartley spent most of his life in Preston. He was born, raised and died there and in his autobiography writes about growing up in Preston. His first gig was playing with his brother Reg in a band called the Midnighters at a church hall in Preston, his first solo album, Lancashire Hustler was inspired by his life in Preston. He played gigs at the town hall in Preston. I know he sometimes ventured out from there to play gigs at places like Woodstock but how much more Prestonian does he have to be to qualify for this thread?

Robert Coyne from Preston.

Described as an alternative folk rock artist. Pretty sure I saw him once at Wickham Festival.

Plymouth is tricky. How far is the catchment because I think Musa are from Exmouth and i think at least on eof Coldplay is from nearby.

Is Steamroller all about Saints though?

I know it opens with “The Saints are playing at home today…”
but is there any other reference in the song?

It’s 7 minutes long and I can’t be bothered listening to all the lyrics.

I’m more of a tune kinda guy and don’t really listen to lyrics much.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

Mad Dog McCrea was a spectacular gig in Plymouth. Think they’re from various parts of the SW.
