+ Safe standing. Very good news. Surely, no one can object to this.

I've just seen the other threads about this but it's such good news, it deserves a few.

Like i said there isnt another part of St Marys that can be isolated if need be like theyve done with the corner of northam and britannia road. Rows of coaches can be parked up easily in britannia road and escorted out. This i suspect is only happening becuase the club are willing to pay for a lot more stewards as the Police will not provide the numbers for safety. I highlighted that you could if you wanted get a ticket in the Northam end. SO yes its a minor amount of fans that are already in the northam anyway. It will be interesting to see how they cope with vocal fans moving alongside this new away section and them standing. We already have a home end its called the chapel end.

There is no finding the 'negative' its about considering other fans ie the majority that attend games. But it looks like they have no say and the decision has already been made.

The Northam End is the Home End.
Credit that those that tried The Chaple, but it didn't work.

To take some of your points, you say that moving next to the away fans is a thing of the past, sorry but that isn't true, the migration of a number of fans into the Itchen North only happened just before Covid and then in the year or so after it there was a bigger influx on the return of the fans to the ground culminating in disorder that led to the closing of block i in October 2022, so the issue is still there.

Yes there would be a majority of Saints fans who would say yes to the move, but they do so just on the headline about creating a red & white wall, they know nothing of the logisistics.

Also how many who say yes will actually move seats and move to the Northam

Some fans moved to the Itchen North because of the way St. Marys is now.
The club is doing whats best for its fans, support it.

I'm considering it. Depends if they offer cheap tickets in blocks 47/48 as I stand at the back of block 15 for that very reason (it's the cheapest area of the ground). Hence the whole BOTC movement. If they don't have cheaper tickets in the 'Northam wall' in the outer sections it will feel like a bit of a kick in the teeth.

I honestly can't see this new setup working. Unfortunately, the only way to have all saints singers in one section is to have safe standing next to the away end (like they now have at Derby). We've had a home end since the ground opened but no one chose to use it. This season we tried getting the Chapel going to relatively little success. Which just goes to show that the new setup will cause disruption as a lot of people prefer to be next to the away fans.

Everyone seems to think that tickets will be cheaper than elsewhere in the ground, as far as I know the club have not said this? After all, there is no increase in capacity, each ticket holder will have their own tickets allocated to a rail seat/space. Are tickets cheaper at other grounds with safe standing?

Northam Home Fans Only on 19:55 - Jan 17 with 1216 viewsAnonSaint1

No. I just mean that the likes of block 47/48 on the end of the Northam have the same view as block 15 so why should fans in the outer sections of the new Northam have to pay more as a price of it being a more desirable section. Same views should have the same price.

Speaking as someone who moved to the itchen north pre Covid I did it specifically to get away from the red lodge kids in the northam.

Not a hope in hell I’m going back next to them now. They actually did it me off away games.

Of course there can be another area of the ground that can safely house away fans ,it requires Police cooperation yes, but it can be done.
You don't know its a minority fan appeasement, from what conversations I have had with other Saints fans and what I have read there is a Majority in favor of the move.
Atmosphere doesn't just develop with what happens on the pitch,it builds before a game too.
Just look at the Derby games.
Games are not like they used to be in the 70/80s,the violence at them was intense, its not like that anymore,so moving away fans is not asking for trouble.
Why some want to find the negatives in a move that would transform St. Marys is beyond me,do we really want a ground where our loudest fans are in the corners, the Northam fans get moved when there is a big game.
I don't believe there would be a move by some fans to be next to the away fans, that's what used to happened in the past.
The Northam End must be a Home End.

'You don't know its a minority fan appeasement, from what conversations I have had with other Saints fans and what I have read there is a Majority in favor of the move.'

So you and Dirk on here think is a good idea wasting millions on a senseless idea to put put away fans in the same slot Chapel end/corner, 2 out of God knows how many is hardly a majority here is it?

'I don't believe there would be a move by some fans to be next to the away fans, that's what used to happened in the past.'

Explain why?, cos it's a cast iron cert they will, both Chapel/Kingsland side
Look a Leicester, they've got 2 home ends available for their noisy fans, which end do you think they picked for their blue wall?
Spot on, You guessed right, on the halfway line next to the away fans.

That's the issue though, there isn't. What does Police co-operation mean? Turning a blind eye? Hardly going to happen and the Police/Council will not agree to any move then there is nothing the club can do.

Fan safety is more important than anything else and moving fans to that corner will reduce that. I dont agree with this idea that 'away fans help their team being in the northam' becuase they sound louder. This claim is all down to whats happening on the pitch and thats going to be different every game.

Im going to highlight and those present will agree that even when 5000 away fans have been in the northam the atmosphere has been buzzing. Rememeber those games againt pompey, the fa cup games in 02/03

Why are away fans being looked at with such disdain anyway. There is nothing worse in modern football that for example away fans at Newcastle are sitting on the roof.

Russell Martin is one of the main motivators behind this move and he wants the away fans moved so I think it will happen even if a few old nimbys on here don't like it. When you look at Saintsweb and other sites online, you can see that the vast majority of Saints fans support the move.

“Russell Martin and others have told me a few times about how loud the away fans are. We are looking at a space where the away fans don’t get an advantage over our team.”

We might even win a few big cup games instead of making them like a home game for the visiting team.

Think before you type, telling us TP is a PL player, wanting Pompey to win games, Scotland have sent plenty of quality players to the PL, home fans won't move near the away fans, to name just a few.

In an ideal world, this would happen, but this isnt an ideal world, no one is saying that it isnt a good idea for there to be one big home end not affected by cup games etc, but the reality is the demographics of the stadium make that very hard to do.

Why are the away fans louder than the Northam end who sit next to them, the numbers in each half of the Northam are roughly the same at the moment, in fact we have a slight advantage as our set of singing fans goes into the Kingsland.

So moving the away fans will immediately make the Northam end sing louder and more often, despite the fact that roughly 40% of their chants are in response to the away fans.

Where people stand or sit matters little, it is all about the people themselves, moving the away supporters wont suddenly change things.

The vast majority of Saints fans are not affected by the move, if you asked me and most of the city if pedestrianizing Portswood road is a good idea they would say yes, but I rarely go there so it doesn't affect me, but most of those who live there are totally against it.

Always be wary of someone who panders to those to gain favour.

As for Russell Martin's input, he is here to manage the team, managers come and go

The away fans will still be loud no matter where they are, I’m in the kingsland, our fans in the Northam which are closer to me are not that loud

I honestly don’t believe there will be a rush to go in the Northam end by Saints fans, the sun in the current away area is blinding!

be interesting to ask the people in itchen north what their plans would be if the away fans were at the other end of the ground
