What a pile of shite.I know there’s a lot more we don’t see on the TV but it seems the Beeb have sent every spiky haired feckwit there to tell us how great it is. I’ve seen some top bands there going way back but it now seems like a tame extension of X factor. With the dirge that is Cold Play to look forward to it seems rock n roll is finally dead.

Apart from PJ Harvey, imo no decent bands on Pyramid Stage all weekend

However plenty of decent bands on Other, Woodsies, Left Field and Park Stages, not sure how much coverage bands performing on those stages will get though.

Just watched The Vaccines set and they were quality. Missed ‘James’ who for some bizarre reason were on between 3 and 4.

Last time I went was back in 2000 and in all honesty, the numbers involved and types that now go is something I prefer to avoid. For me these days I am all for supporting the grass roots venues and acts struggling to make a crust. Take tonight for instance, Fontaines DC and Idles are both playing and anyone who supports the likes of the Joiners etc. could have caught them long before they got to play in Pilton.

1994 was the pinnacle for me with that Manics set being one of the best ever. Mind you, in them days it tended to be lads and lasses donning DM’s whereas now it is more Hunters and Coco Channel handbags…..

The IoW festival last weekend had a better line up. Glastonbury this year is utter tripe.

Agreed about seeing bands at smaller venues, I saw Idles at 1865, Fontaines DC at Guildhall in last few years, and going to see Billy No mates at Joiners and Fat Dog at Papillon in Nov

Put it on for a few minutes and witnessed the debacle of Dexy's M R with what looked like Kevin Rowland trying to pretend he can still sing in front of an audience that could sing it in tune and better than he was.

A bit like last weekend at the IoW festival and the legend that is Neil Finn & Crowded House. Poor bugger struggled big time on some of the notes during their set. Contrast that to the excellent Chrissie Hynde (who nicked my Zippo lighter back in 1979 but that's another story) and The Pretenders who were excellent still.

Spot on
It’s been gash for years full of Crusties and trusties now
93 was epic with verve and porno for pyros, Manics in 94 and Radiohead in 97 post 2000 it’s just poor poor poor
Scheduling the Idles at the same time as Fontaines is stupidity at its finest
As for Coldplay and their neon brand of bland heaven help us

I got talking to Martin Chambers at an antiques fair back in the mid eighties at Kempton Park when I lived in the area and we became car boot fair mates for a while, hunting for rarities at seven in the morning when stallholders were still setting up and comparing prizes (sometimes over a drink) later in the day.
He's still the drummer.

Used to see a lot of the emerging groups around the University circuit in the 1970's but, in my humble opinion, it takes a lot to beat the Northern Soul all nighters.

The ticket, booze and food prices are definitely those of capitalist exploitation of a captive audience of champagne socialists.
As AC/DC’s Brian Johnson commented, ‘Thought it was all wellies and corporate’.

I still go to the twice-monthly antiques fairs at Kempton racecourse fairly regularly Ron. Sometimes you can pick up treasures if you're lucky. I know several of the dealers well as I've had dealings with them over many years at Kempton, Ardingly, etc. If anyone watches Dickinson's Real Deal, my old friend Pompey girl Karen Dalmeny is often on there, as is Henry Nicholls who's antiques shop in Worthing I go to every couple of months or so.

Getting back to a musical point ; just before the covid epidemic, I saw (the awful) Lilly Allen wondering around Kempton early one Tuesday morning looking for antiques. She looked as miserable and sulky as sin.

Saw some of her last night and said exactly the same. In fairness at points, half wondered from the bits I saw if the sound desk and set up was right. Don’t get me wrong, so off key but then at other stages she did hug the odd kite with volume. Seemed to be very ‘quiet’ though….

Just flicked through I-Player and watched her. OMG, she was bad. Never been to Glasto, but did 5 V festivals in the past and I think these were a lot better (and cheaper).

Couldn't believe Shania Twain was 58, but I definitely could see Cindi Lauper was 71. Why do they feel the drag people like Cindi Lauper from their care homes, when there is so much talent out there ?

Never heard of SZA who is closing tonight. I appreciate I’m not the targeted audience but the music is so bland

It seems Glastonbury wasn't the targeted audience either. The problem is the Eavises have to show they put black female artists on as headliners, but rock music is the natural genre for Glastonbury and there aren't many black female rock groups. Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne was on a smaller stage playing to a much larger audience, as were The National, who security had to turn thousands away from because there simply wasn't room for any more.

"The smallest audience I've ever seen for a Glastonbury headliner"
