Gallen Speaks on 19:28 - Oct 8 with 4027 views | joe90 | Absolutely nothing controversial or surprising about Gallen’s comments. We’re on iteration number whateveritisnow of the QPR project. Bottom line is we don’t have any money and are now looking for crap players from abroad. We’re probably the most pretentious team in the Championship and all this talk about the Languid Dane being a classy player further compounds the embarrassment of it all. George W Bush said it right: There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again [Post edited 8 Oct 19:29]

Gallen Speaks on 19:32 - Oct 8 with 4005 views | Northernr | The only issue here is, rather late at night, he went around calling people a "spaz" which Isn't helpful. It can be immensely frustrating watching the QPR dialogue play out on Twitter though - all the 'bring' and 'what's Nourry cooking' and 'ANNOUNCE CELAR, we will be there' and 'man he's got pausa' chat is really fcking triggering to me. It's like fingers on a blackboard. So God knows what it must do to people like Gallen who've actually played the game. Still, 'spaz', probs over the line that one. But Kevin Gallen was a fantastic player for us over two spells, could bury us in knowledge of the game, is entitled to his opinion and... in my opinion... is largely right here. As for only popping up when it's going badly... perhaps. But there's a lot of posters on here like that. We win the next three or four games there'll be people you won't see or hear from for a month. Opinions are stronger, emotions are running hot, when it goes badly more than when it goes kind of well. And take it from me, you get a lot more requests to appear on podcasts etc when things are going to sht than when you're sitting tenth because it's more of a story. Three defeats in a row suddenly Gab Sutton's in touch asking me on, W12 podcast tonight. It's just how it works. If Millwall were bottom BBC London would be interviewing their fans and ex players about what's gone wrong.

Gallen Speaks on 16:55 - Oct 8 by aston_hoop | I'm going to die on this hill genuinely. Varane and Madsen have not been starting together much at the base of midfield, they've been starting with Sam Field and his 200-ish appearances or Jack Colback and his many many more. Sunderland signed Alan Browne and have used him sparingly because the young players are playing well in a system that suits them but crucially the senior pros (mostly O'Nien) are setting the standards. A bit of Shaun Derry in the squad is surely what Colback is for? Plus for that we have Steve Cook, Jimmy Dunne, even Lucas Andersen - Cook, Dunne and Colback have all been every bit as poor as the new signings in this sense. Maybe a little harsh on Colback, but Dunne as a centre back is just not right and Cook has been a shadow of the player he is. Field also just doesn't look comfortable at all, none of this is due to the new signings but if they did happen to step up and set the example, maybe the new signings would have more of a chance to follow. So really, I don't think the issue has to be the new signings. |
"Sunderland signed Alan Browne and have used him sparingly because the young players are playing well in a system that suits them, but crucially the senior pros (mostly O'Nien) are setting the standards". Fun fact: After a single game for Watford, then 36 for Wealdstone, on loan, O'Nien was brought to Wycombe Wanderers by Ainsworth, when O'Nien was a free agent I'm not pining for Gareth, by the way.
| "Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1." |

Gallen Speaks on 21:41 - Oct 8 with 3544 views | derbyhoop | Gallen was a QPR legend as a player. But he often comes across as "its not as good as when I was playing". Of course, it's easy to be critical when things are not going well. And that's when the publicity comes to the fore.

Gallen Speaks on 17:44 - Oct 8 by BrianMcCarthy | I'm not taking sides on this, TK1, just posing a question. Gallen's only saying what we're all saying/wondering. I'm not saying I know whether he's right or wrong. Just wondering if we could have got ten players of similar attributes from the Championship. |
one or two alongside some gambles would have made sense. Given how much we spent in the summer to be in the bottom 3 again and deservedly so is very depressing

Well we brought in one player with Championship experience with Swansea last season, Ashby. Both Dembele and Morrison played a number of games in League 1 last season with Blackpool and Wigan respectively where I have the impression the football isn't so different, some of it just at a lower standard.
Gallen Speaks on 10:38 - Oct 9 with 2673 views | joe90 | Putting aside the navel gazing about which player is a dud and the merits of having Championship experience...it will be very interesting to see what the mood is like on here if we beat Pompey. I for one will be ecstatic and will have absolutely no problem making 180 degree turn on all my opinions.
Gallen Speaks on 11:24 - Oct 9 with 2536 views | switchingcode | Don’t agree with the moan about not having championship experience as when you are a bottom half championship side without massive funds how are you going to get players in who are better than you already have from other champ clubs. The Tuesday Saturday Tuesday …trotted out is not that unique as it’s the same for Div 1 Div 2 and even the National league which are leagues that you are likely to find some value. Players coming in from abroad always take time to settle in and adapt to English league football a wait that usually pays dividends in the long run.

that depends on the quality of the player though, for every success from abroad there are plenty who fail never to be seen again as they couldnt hack it, and we have gone ballls deep with bringing in untried players from abroad , in a settled side yes chuck in on or two and it wont affect the balanace to much, chuck in half a team and you are taking a huge chqnce esp if the run of defeats and poor performances carry on .

True and I’ve witnessed plenty of failures at my own club regarding foreign players and that was before Brexit rules were changed to suppress the market for non PL clubs.Maupay Mbeumo and Vitaly all came from 2nd Div European clubs along with others that have proved successful but took time to settle in and received mixed views from our fans (one commented Maupay was the worst striker he had ever seen in a Bees shirt) I agree a settled team is the ideal situation for players to ease into but it’s not unusual for clubs to start a new season with the majority of starting line ups.being new signings you just have to trust the manager and give it time.
Gallen Speaks on 13:57 - Oct 9 with 2138 views | QPR_Jim | I don't suppose there is a hard and fast rule for how a player is going to adapt to the Championship, I suspect that it varies from position to position. Goalkeeper, I can't see it being much of a difference. I also imagine that the plan was to introduce the players more gradually but have had our hands forced by injury, a risk of the strategy employed but even with injuries you'd be pessimistic to have planned for having as many of our experienced players injured as we have. I also think the plan of buying players that were already playing abroad was intended to avoid issues with player settling abroad. So to me it all makes sense, it's just not worked how we would have liked. The issue with picking up players like Browne on a free at 29 years old is that he'll have no sell on. We might be better in the short term but if we're going to get good championship players we need to increase our budget and buying players with potential is the only way to really effect that. So again, I think the strategy makes sense, they're not all going to be winners but we only need to sell 1 or 2 for it to cover the costs and improve our FFP situation in the future.

we have done it ourselves plenty of times, think holloway started on pre season with 7 players and two were out with long term knee injuries . ive zero issues bringing in untried younger players , the iisue is bascailly blowing the first hald to the season hoping they bed in and then we can turn it around in the second half, issue is by then the fans are pi$$ed off the attendances have dropped and its the manager who usually takes the hit with the poor results, the idea is right the execution has been terrible , that comes down to inexperience from the CEO/ chief scout/ and what ever else hes been doing behind the scenes

Remember David De Gea when he first signed for United? Was terrible at first and took him an entire season to adapt to the Premier League, then he became one of the best 'keepers in the division for yonks and won their player of the season award multiple times

Gallen Speaks on 15:27 - Oct 9 with 1932 views | francisbowles | It's not comparing like with like, but Vincent Company's Burnley recruited players who in most cases had no championship experience. Burnley were a relegated club, with parachute payment and player sales to reduce debt, Vincent Company spent ÂŁ25 million in the summer window. There is little doubt they were better players than we can afford and on higher wages but he did get them to gel and they ran away with the division, 10 points ahead of second and 21 ahead of third. So some modicum of this should be possible within our limited budget. Burnley also were active in the January window and I would expect us to be as well, with Noury's creativity probably needed to make room in the budget for loans. We could definitely loan out another keeper, maybe Lloyd, Kolli if we can, Santos, Aoraha, Tuck to a higher level and there could be other candidates that I am not aware of. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4389762/2023/04/07/vincent-kompany-burnley-prom

Gallen Speaks on 15:08 - Oct 8 by TK1 | Hard to disagree with any of that, though, unless you're an 18-year-old FM nerd who thinks every new European club-player we're linked with is better than the last despite never having seen (or heard) of them before, but still posts on X things like "League ain't ready for what Nourry is cooking" and so forth. QPR 1 Hull City 3. The signings look very unbalanced. You can have one or two assimilate slowly in a Championship season, perhaps. Six or seven is asking for trouble. Saw some very active kid on X bawling that Kevin Gallen "was some kind of legend apparently but is trashing that with the fanbase" because KG said Madsen was rubbish or something. Kevin Gallen: 96 goals in 400 appearances across three divisions, promotion winner, scored winners v Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc no longer a QPR legend because he doesn't think the summer signings have been very good. Saw Jimmy Dunne in Soho yesterday, shook his hand. "Well done on recognising me!" Said we'll be fine. Then went to the Coach and Horses and Scott Twine and Luke McNally of Bristol City were outside having pints of Guinness and cider.... |
A version of snakebite then? Unusual choice of drink for pro footballers. The Gallen thing - kind of winds me up. Legendary player etc etc. Not the sharpest tool in the box (no judgement) but as far as I know, has never coached or managed at any sort of level. So, yeah, he has more of a relevant opinion than I do, but so does Liberace (and he's dead). Just can't see the attraction/interest in what he has to say about the current team, formation, tactics, signings etc

Gallen Speaks on 21:22 - Oct 9 with 1458 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Is it as simple as signing too many players from Europe rather than Blighty though? Isn't it more the system? Whenever I've watched us this season, I've been nonplussed at what we're trying to do. Playing slow possession football across the back four then passing to a midfielder who either plays it backwards or loses it. The most effective we've looked was the equaliser against Millwall when Dembele ran forward at pace, played a forward pass and Frey finished.
