Gabbiadini 07:30 - Dec 28 with 1159 viewsPatfromPoole

34 years old and available on a free transfer.

I would ordinarily say to avoid this sort of signing.

However, in this League we typically get a lot of the ball (at Oxford it was over 70%, I think) and when teams sit back and defend deep (I refuse to call it a low block), we lack that bit of nous and clever movement in the penalty area.

That’s where he does really well. You don’t notice him much in the build-up, and then bosh, he scores.

I wouldn’t be opposed at all to this.

Even though Project Romeu is looking a failure.

I agree with your comment about Romeu.
As much as I loved him & his commitment when he was with us previously he does now sadly look as if his legs have gone, he's never been quick but now he's painfully slow.
But he didn't cost us anything & I'm sure he's a positive influence at training & in the dressing room.
Or is he, because the team looks as if they have downed tools since he's been in the squad, hopefully that's just a coincidence.
I think part of the problem is that Tonda is younger than some of the squad & there's a lack of respect for him.

I was one of the few who thought bringing back Romeu was a mistake, and let’s face it when Charles is back Romeu shouldn’t even be on the bench.

As for Gabbiadini I was wondering why his song seems to get sung at most games.

Gabbiadini had a habit of scoring in very big games for us.

So he is always going to be well thought of.

We’d have nothing to lose taking a punt on him. Even if he was off the pace he would still be better than Downes and Archer.

Jam tomorrow

As well as big ones that get wrongly disallowed!

Can't argue with MG being an upgrade on Archer and Downs but that bar is lower than a snake's arseh*le.

I liked him but MG was not really prolific with us, scoring 10 goals over 2 seasons (worse than a goal every 5 games).

On balance I would say that if he is the answer, we need to either..

A. Read the question again

and/or

B. Change our crack supplier

No thanks.

Walcott, Lallana, Romeu...all shot ..legs gone ....we need to learn from this and move on from sentimental thinking.

When Cortese was running the show we were utterly ruthless and binned off players that were either old/not good enough for the relevant league we were in ..

Pat, I agreed with your suggestion regarding Patrick Bamford and Sheffield United got in quick. It is no coincidence that him joining has propelled them up the league. He has scored a few too.

I am a big fan of Gabbiadini and with his quick feet would score plenty in this league. I could see him combining well with Leo and Adam Armstrong. We need to do something quickly if we are to have any chance of making the playoffs.

Agreed, Mark.

Hope you are feeling better, mate.

Happy New Year to you.

And better than Ross 'the A>Z of football injuries' Stewart. An ageing MG would be an upgrade on the hardly ever available Loch Ness Hobbler.

That said, we should have been quicker with Bamford who actually looks like a PL player playing a league down. The quality of the two goals he scored against Wrexham were excellent. Yet another missed opportunity although I understand some may have questioned PB's own injury record....

Not just his injury record in question also a question over his attitude.
Rumours have that he's a cocky, arrogant & a bad influence.
I'm not too bothered that we didn't go for him.
He us not the reason that Sheff U have picked lately, that is down to Chris Wilder going back to the club.

There was some story that he was on video leading the Leeds fans in a foul mouthed song about Wilder during their promotion celebrations back in April.

Seems Wilder was willing to overlook that by November.

OK, I didn’t realise PB was like that, in which case Sheff Utd are welcome to him. Agree re Wilder being the main contributory factor in SU’s revival, just observing the fact PB does look good at this level but agreed it is Wilder who is the main influence. Come to think of it, if PB is a disruptor then in the absence of Brian Clough or Alex Ferguson I reckon Wilder is one of the top candidates to keep PB toeing the line!

I do wonder what the January window will bring, perhaps give Leeds a nudge and see if Piroe is available perhaps on an initial loan as he isn’t getting much of a look in at Elland Road. Top scorer in the Championship last season unless I am mistaken…

It takes a good manager to get the best out of disruptive / difficult players.
That's just what Chris Wilder is , a good manager, with more attitude than any of the players.
I was dissapointed that we didn't go for Chris Wilder earlier in season when he was available.
