| Senedd election 2026 on 16:28 - Jan 14 by Whiterockin | The problem with following a political party like a football team is that it obscures rational thinking. I follow my football team until I die and will not waver, I vote at an election for the party/individual who I think will do the best job at the time and that can change at each election. A massive difference. [Post edited 14 Jan 16:30]

I would vote for someone else if I thought someone else was better but that has never been the case, I always thought Plaid was best for Wales when I looked into it, for a couple of general elections (20 odd years back) there was detailed questionaires online, I think one was 40 questions and one was 60 questions, EU, health, education, immigration, the economy etc etc and it would tell you what parties in 1,2,3 order based on their policies and your answers you was best suited too, I answered honestly and it came out Plaid -1, Green -2 and might have been SinnFein-3 for me, I can't remember the 3rd one now. I put it up on a small long defunked rugby site and I knew how the other posters results would come out before they did it and i was right everytime. Some posters were voting for the party they should vote for (like me) but others possibly 50% of them were voting for a party they should not vote for based on their politics, they were voting for a brand. The example was a Swansea boy who should have been Plaid all day long, he was left wing, he was patriotic but because Plaid was pro EU he was against them, I tried to tell him voting is like buying a house you got to comprise, typically you can't have all the bedrooms, garage, location, garden etc that you want, but there you go.

Up until now Plaid wanted Independence and got nowhere with the voting. This has currently been withdrawn and are getting more support. In my opinion if they changed policy back they would not be leading in the polls. This is what I mean about voters changing votes depending on the election. Sticking with the same party for 40 years is just plain uneducated foolishness.

Plaid was always baby steps towards independence and even then only if the electorate wanted it, so I don't know where you got this 'currently been withdrawn from' ? Plaids economic policies always made more sense in my opinion than Labour or Conservatives or Lib Dems so why you think me voting for the same party is uneducated foolishness I don't know ? Give me a breakdown who you have voted for over the last 40 years then ?

I have been voting for over 50 years and don't always vote. My vote changes depending on what I think at the time and sometimes I have regretted my decision, the last GE I didn't vote because I thought they were all liars. As for the Senedd election I can't decide yet because I haven't seen the candidates I can vote for or the manifestos.

Who's the uneducated fool now then ?, sometimes you regretted your decision you say, I've never regretted my decision. How many times do you think you have voted Labour over those 50 years and how many times do you think you have voted Conservative in that time ? Didn't you say around the Caerphilly election time you was going to vote or thinking of voting Reform ?

I haven't ruled out voting for anyone in May except Labour. I have voted for independents in the past and may again.

Wilson and Thatcher yes, not Blair, not Johnson and quite possibly not Farage as I said I dont know yet. You are probably not old enough to understand the politics of the 70s and eighties. Power cuts 3 day weeks massive inflation and mortgage rates at 15%. All this shapes how people voted. Now we have Labour in the Senedd who have messed up big time and are going. This is why people change who they vote for, currently many in Wales are changing, if there wasn't this change Plaid wouldn't be leading in the polls.

I knew it that you would have voted Thatcher, i just wanted you to admit it, the woman ruined this country and caused the inequalities we have in todays society, she sold off the family silver our nationalised industries and she sold off our housing stock, no wonder you have regrets but there again I bet you don't regret voting for her, I was reading mainly people over 50 are voting Reform and I bet lots of them voted Thatcher as well, I had you pegged as Tory/Reform type and I was correct.

I won't be voting Plaid. Labour or Reform after that I've not got a clue. I didn't vote in the GE for exactly the same reason as you and I can't remember when I last voted.

| Senedd election 2026 on 14:29 - Jan 14 by Dr_Winston | I would vote Labour before Plaid. That's how insane they are. I'm no fan of Reform but it's fairly obvious that many are abandoning Labour to vote for the party that they think can keep Reform out of power rather than because they particularly agree with Plaid policies. The problem with that approach is that you end up with a Plaid Goverment enacting Plaid policies. I'm not sure Wales could survive much of that. |
It beggars belief doesn’t it!

This was exactly my point. It’s why Labour have controlled Wales for so long. People just vote for them regardless of how badly they’ve done. A lot of those people now know they can’t win and will vote tactically next time without even checking how mental some of Plaids intentions are. Sane could be said of people voting Tory in the last GE, just because they always have done.

She also cleared up the mess labour left, closed down dead industries and replaced them with profitable modern industries. She got the unemployment figures down and also actually managed to to start repaying the National debt. The over manned state owned industries, which were run for the benefit of the staff and unions, were privatised and all of them offered better service to the public. The much needed modernisation and investment proved a boon for the economy. Her greatest achievement was actually to make strikes illegal unless union members actually voted to strike. Remember Scargil call the miners out on strike for over a year without actually asking them.

Actually my biggest regret is voting for devolution. I was sold a dream and once devolution arrived the "whole of Wales" ideology changed. I honestly think that the next assembly term will determine the future of the Senedd, any more failings and it will be gone. If any party includes a referendum on keeping or ending the Senedd I expect the polls to dramatically change. Currently people are going to vote to just get rid of Labour, if there was an option to remove the Senedd don't be surprised to see that party take the lead.

That is a normal standard size poll particularly for a Senedd election, I looked at the YouGov breakdown yesterday and I thought it said 1,220 ?

The people voted for the Senedd/Assembly to have extra powers, I think there was some kind of abolish the Senedd/Assembly a couple of years back but they got nowhere.

In the 5 they control, they put up council tax by the maximum permitted of 5% in 4 of them and in the other they increased the tax by 3.99%. Reality bites.

It's that type of thing that's being used to clap back at Reform in my area. The neighbouring county (Kent) is Reform run and has been an omnishambles. Anyone saying 'they must be better than the alternative' can be shown that it appears not. [Post edited 15 Jan 11:59]
