I thought what and when did you buy your first vinyl ?? As I’ve said for me was New Rose by The Damned and either Give ‘Em Enough Rope by The Clash or Requiem by Killing Joke were my first albums. I think it was around 1980 as a 14 year old i started buying records. I would also say early Cure get a mention too.

I remember dancing to Tiger Feet as a nipper, still like the song 😬 I also remember in the late 70s , 10 years after its release MC5 and “ kick out the jams, muther fukka”. They were so ahead of their time.” Looking at you “ was also a song which could of been released 10 years later..

This might have been because I had to share it with my brother, so we had to agree which one we bought, as that was the only way we could afford it. I was 12. Sparks are still going more than half a century later and touring the UK this year (tickets available in B'mouth)

They too was far ahead of its time. Weren’t they brothers, with the one on the keyboards looking like Hitler. About 20 years ago I went to a rave (as you did then) and they played that 00 style. It was epic….

MC5....Talk about wack jobs...in the 60's they were one of the originators of the word "underground". They had a guitarist who was married to Patti Smith. His name was Fred "Sonic " Smith. If I ever get an urge to change my name by deed poll, that's what I'm going for.

Single...never bought one in my life...in the late 60's we used pirate radio for that stuff. Albums....First Jethro Tull (This Was ). Their sound was dictated by Mick Abrahams back then, before the mad Jock flautist took over. First two Doors albums East-West by Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Here's a tester for the elderly on here. Has anyone heard of an album by a band called Pete Brown and his Battered Ornaments called " A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark". A mate lent it to me in 1969 and I never gave it back.

No, but I saw Pete Brown at a university gig. He certainly had a way with words. My favourite album title of his was, "Things May Come and Things May Go but the Art School Dance Goes on Forever".

Nice shout Mr D. That album was by his next band project Piblokto. Both groups featured Chris Spedding on guitar who was pretty good, Brown wrote all the lyrics for Jack Bruce's songs with Cream. Ahh...carefree days.

Mum was not impressed with them. Moved on to Joy Division for first album - what a voice Ian Curtis had. The UK was a pretty gloomy place back then.

Written by Cher's husband, Sonny Bono. They had to sing 'Needles and Pinza' to make the lyrics fit the tune.

In the space of two days in May 1990 I saw two Manchester bands, the first was The Stone Roses at Spike Island, perhaps their most iconic gig, although anyone who tells you that they were brilliant was definitely not there, for the first half of the gig the sound was awful and the wind played havoc with it, it was more about the moment that the sound. The next night I saw Freddie & The Dreamers at the Hilton Hotel in Southampton playing the Licensed Victuallers Association annual ball. I had swapped jeans & t shirt for dinner jacket. F & TD played their greatest hits but afterwards Freddie was a complete T***, refusing to sign anything or pose for photos unless you had bought a piece of merchandise from their little stall

Based on the number of hits they had, multiplied by the average track time of a chart single in those days, that concert must have lasted between 9 and 11 minutes.

I remember they played I Like It so I assumed that was one of theirs, but it was gerry & The Pacemakers , I dont think they played that long , but then again The Stone Roses had only one album and a few singles to their name at that time

But they could use tricks like the 6 minute guitar outro on I am the Resurrection to stretch the set out a bit.

It could well have been Sound Affects by The Jam and it is still in my loft !! I also remember taping / recording The Clash, Joy Division and Blondie around the same time and wanting to play them in my parents' car, but they were having none of it, preferring Supertramp’s - Breakfast in America !!
