Hopefully with a regime change in Iran which the good people of that country deserve. It won’t be easy or pretty but I’m with Trump on this one.

It’s a shame we didn’t have Zack as PM as he could talk peace and love with Trump and stop war

Seriously, although I detest him, I too am right with him here

You do have to wonder if the opportunity has been missed. Surely the best time to have done this was when the protests were at their height and before the Mullahs executed tens of thousands of people who might have contributed to a successful uprising?

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

War means bombs. Bombs means death and displacement. Displacement means refugees. Refugees mean boats. Boats means anger and restrictions on civil rights.

Europe is tightening up these things very slowly. UK people ars in the slow lane. The people support losing EHCR rights in one hand but staunchly reject Digital iD. The target should not be stopping illegal migrants. The solution is blocking illegals from free services via digital id .

US bases in the area getting destroyed by Iranian missiles. They will start on Israel soon, just as they stated they would.

Not sure where this will go, but if the US and Israel thought their sneaky and. Cowardly attacks will go un punished they must have been deluded

It also echoes of the Iraq war.

I’m not saying that the US are wrong, but it’s naive to forget the inevitable consequences.

First one or second one?

In the first the US encouraged certain groups to rise up against Saddam and then completely failed to back them so most got exterminated. In the second their biggest mistake was to disband the Iraqi army and various elite units in a rushed effort to "de Baathify" the country.

All that achieved was to spread their own troops too thin to keep order and generate a large number of unemployed locals with military training and a grudge against the occupying forces.

Yes, take away the oppressive regime and all the lawless opportunists come out of hiding. To he history of the whole region is characterised by religious and tribal conflicts over thousands of years and westerners think they can fix it.
It makes me laugh out loud when Trump says 'surrender or die' because the extremists will prefer to die.

There were three starting in the 1980s. Saddam himself launches a war v Iran that ended up with a million or so dead. He had attacked two independent states by the time of the second war. He latter gassed 4000 Kurds amongst numerous other horrors.

It is time the world supported Kurdish nationhood and ignored Turkish concerns.

Looks like they've also eliminated anyone that could fill the power vacuum.

All for naught if there isn't an uprising. The timing still seems off to me. I know they have to move resources into place, but surely that could have been done last month?

There are also reports that the Iranian Govt is trying to close the Strait of Hormuz, although I'm not sure how they plan to do that. Any military attempt to do so would be quickly ended by one of the two carrier strike groups that the US has in the region.

Agree with you on the timing.

It's the usual bluster from the Iranians but already there seems to be, from reports this evening, that the military are waving the white flag.

Will the people get on the streets again after the crackdowns? Takes guts but I don't see they have a choice really - economy is trashed, years of oppression...

Worst case scenario is civil war but there's probably a % lower in the decimals that want their country to carry on as before.

Next few weeks will be interesting

The US fleets have taken some serious hits apparently, their air defences have been called into question as well.

My initial worry was the reaction of the 150,000 or so Iranians living in this country. Many of whom have arrived recently illegally on the boats. The seeming lack of any sort of protest or backlash suggests that the majority of them at least are supportive of this action.

Most Iranians I've come into contact with have all been Christians and would be opening up a bottle of something tasty to celebrate Khameni's demise. They've all been "genuine" refugees based on what I know about them.

Yep. If the Americans had taken any serious hits it would be all over the news or social media by now.

There's not really an awful lot that the Iranians are likely to be capable of that can hurt them in any meaningful way. Their military budget is bigger than something like the next ten nations combined. In much the same way as football, the biggest spenders tend to have the best capability.
