What are people’s thoughts on the Mbenge disallowed goal that was pulled back for the foul on 45 seconds?
Personally I didn’t see much wrong with it and thought goal should’ve stood.
So for me the ref was great……. For less than a minute!!!
He looked scared witless and had zero authority and players will sniff that out quick style. Throwing cards around like it’s Christmas isn’t the answer either.
I decided on 30 mins that Mbenge was bound to get booked as he was having a nightmare on and off the ball. It was 7/2 and too good not to have a nibble on……. I was shocked when it took until past 80th minute for him to go in the book for time wasting!!!! |
Looked absolute nonsense. If it was 0-0 in the second half and we weren’t given it there’d be 10 pages dedicated to it.
Also the Mbengue booking. Had the ball in his hand for no time at all but if it’s a long throw feel free to take as long as you want. [Post edited 4 Apr 9:38]

I didn't see any foul in front of M'Bengue's disallowed goal either. Thought the Ref was throwing cards around like he had confetti at a wedding. Thankfully he stuck with the yellow variety. | | | |

I actually thought he had a decent game. SOme quite petty and nasty bits from both teams, kicks off the ball, elbows left in.
Most of the bookings were fair, Dunne was probably lucky there is no Var as his one was a really high bad tackle. Kolli stupidly kicking one of theirs off the ball, he booked a Watford player for doing the same to Varane.
Smyth was unlucky but looked a nasty one on the replay, a booking seemed fair.
Everyone who went today though seems to have a different view, obviously looked very different on tv. [Post edited 3 Apr 19:55]

I did watch it at home which i appreciate is a very different perspective than being at the game and seeing replays of a lot of the debatable issues helps. My son came home and said the same as most on here about the ref |

The ref was a mixed bag for me. I was at the game. Most of the bookings were deserved, Watford could have had more and what was Smyth cautioned for, slipping?
It looked a decent goal and I thought he had allowed it but maybe the linesman gave it. It also looked a decent tackle by Bennie. I was in F block though, a long way from it and haven't seen any replays.
I'd say 5 or 6/10 depending on those two decisions being 'proved' correct. I've seen numerous referring performances that were much worse.
He was right on top of all the action, with more experience will be at least an ok ref. | | | |

He was a soft touch for players falling down between the ball and an opponent, there was even more blatant collapse in front of Mbengue late in the second half. Still, while we’ve got Paul Smyth in the team, we can’t get too self-righteous. |  | | |

Agree 100% with this. He was too quick on the draw with the cards but he was on top of the game, maintained good control and given his level of experience he did better than some of the muppets who make it up | | | |
