Ironically my change in heart was caused by his 2 missed chances today. Yes sure he didn't score from 2 presentable chances but the lad was in the right place to miss those chances. His all round play is slightly better than Kolli’s in my humble opinion. I think he did more in 20 minutes than Kolli did with his time on the pitch today. Surprised he didn’t bury that last chance. |
I've disagreed with everything going down this thread and then I got to this message and, by Christ!!, I have to disagree HUGELY!
Kolli's all round play is on another level to Bennies.
His link up and hold up play was very good again today, stretched PNE whenever we went forward when he was on the pitch and took up some intelligent positions and did his fair share of closing down.
Bennie runs around like a competetion winner - 10/10 for effort and endeavour but I think it shows time and time again that neither he nor the club are sure exactly where he should be played. He's missed three sitters in two games now and, IMHO, is miles from this level... currently.
I hope the lad does well and scores more screamers a la Hull for the club; but he needs so much work on his bread n butter game it's unreal..... [checks Glossary] -- "needs a loan".
Hopefully he'll be banging them in for Wycombe next season. |  |

I think there is a bit of a middle ground between the 2 slightly ridiculous points held in this thread so far that Bennie is better than Kolli and Bennie is a competition winner .
He missed a couple of chances (3 actually as he has a glancing headed chance just after he came on).
So what ?
Experienced and better footballers than young Daniel have missed better and easier chances than those .
He keeps getting in those positions then he’ll get goals .

We are not in the stadium where our job is clear . This is a place for us to post what we feel . I think it’s simple.
He’s a lot better than most of us feared. He’s showing signs he might have a career at this level. Very encouraging.
But he’s shown nothing like Kolli has at this level, both in terms of stats (goals and assists per 90mins of football) or to the naked eye regards his touch, awareness, technicality, finishing and skill. Kolli is significantly better, albeit loses out in work rate. |  | | |

I don't recall answering Connell directly. When I saw him at Leeds away last season I thought no won’t make the grade but fair play to him obviously worked out a lot in the Gym and his upper body strength is much better, he has a yard of pace a great attitude and my thoughts are now yeah this kid could make the grade especially if he keeps improving at he rate he has over the last twelve months.

Ok. I’ll put my hands up. I don’t like Kolli. I think he’s got an over inflated opinion of himself. He’s greedy and not a team player. Yes, he’s got a good shot on him and hes been much improved over the last few games but it’s gonna take a lot for me to change my mind.
I’ve seen Kone getting exasperated with Kolli several times because he doesn’t play the pass a team player would. It happened today.
Kone is the perfect example of an unselfish team player. Playing Bennie in for the chance he missed today and when he stepped over the ball when he could easily have shot, letting it run on to Smyth who then scored very early on in the season were perfect examples.

But I thought he was not gonna make it until I saw him play striker. Now, I can see a Tony Thorpe style about him. I think he can make it at L1 at least, and if he develops, maybe Champ.
We must loan him to an L1 club next season, preferably one that goes up, so they offer us £3.5m for him. And no, you cannot laugh as that's what Kelman garnered.

Yes he will have hoped to have done better as we all did.
But maybe Walsh here , Mbengue there .
Dunne here , Varane there etc etc etc etc
All of them and many more have made errors if not bigger that have cost us points .
But some would rather have a whinge that because he didn’t score today, our season is over ?
I think it died some weeks ago only to cough back into life from a strike by Bennie at Hull before we decided to jack it in fully at Southampton .
