I am now going to recollect a situation that happened to my family; it could very well save lives bearing in mind the times that we live in….Hence why I MUST mention it!
My very elderly mother had a urinary tract infection; she was prescribed (correct standard NHS procedure) Selexid 200mg anti-biotics to take. These tablets had zero effect, so much so that my mother’s condition rapidly deteriorated significantly to a life threatening state.
I phoned 999 for an ambulance….. Many hours latter still no ambulance.
My (clinician) sister arrived, to then intervene by being forced to take a GAMBLE, yes a GAMBLE i.e. cancel the ambulance, wait for Fosfomycin 3g sachets anti-biotic instead and to monitor and treat at home.
It required a wait for Fosfomycin that came faster than any NHS ambulance and additional hospital wait would. A “beat the clock” race against time scenario as it were!
Yep! My family were forced to take the D.I.Y route, folks!
If my mother had waited for an ambulance along with the additional wait in hospital? She would have sooner rather than latter succumbed to sepsis and died.
So the gist is? If a loved one of yours ever has a serious UTI? Be wary of lack of improvement and be wary of progression onto SEPSIS which is extremely common in elderly. Do not hang about! Many have died totally unnecessarily, because of lack of emergency response. |  |

Because when under Westminster rule everyone can remember when ambulances actually provided an emergency service, people could walk into a G,P surgery and make an appointment, and were guaranteed an NHS dentist etc.
Stick to juvenile student activist politics to fight make-believe fascists/Brtishness and endanger/spite yourself and family members in the process, because guess what? An ambulance (just as one example) arriving within (once the norm) time would have prevented an incredible amount of deaths across Wales. Wales, and the rest of the UK, enjoyed a period of massively improved public services from 1997 until austerity from 2010 onwards. The austerity agenda after the global financial crash absolutely decimated our country economically. It was hugely convenient to Osbourne and Cameron that their sweeping cuts to public services could be blamed on devolution.
This was utterrly compoumded by Brexit which has been a disaster. We have lost £billions as a result. It is a source of poetic irony (and utter desperation) that the same charlatans who brought the country to its knees economically are now positioning themselves as our apparent saviours [Post edited 10 May 1:04]

I guess we've ended up as I feared with a Plaid-led government propped up with Labour support. There is a certain irony in the fact that Labour alienated people with the 20 MPH speed limit, the Senedd expansion, nation of sanctuary and fiscal looseness, and that same electorate opts for Rhun Jones who is right behind those very same things. If anything we have nudged a fraction further to the Left and enhanced wokeness. There is also the fantasy economics of independence lurking in the background. Reform will have its chance to show if it can be a serious political force, but fell tantalisingly short of fundamentally transforming the situation. [Post edited 9 May 7:10]

The Welsh government gets 80% of its funding from Westminster.
During the 2010’s, the Welsh government saw its budget decrease in real terms by around 5% which resulted in cuts to the NHS budget. By the eve of the pandemic, the NHS Wales budget was in real terms still 2.8% bellow the 2010 level. That’s 10 years of below real term growth!! Factor in an increase in population, an increase in the number of older people who cost a lot more to care for (Wales has a much higher number of older people than almost any other region of the U.K.) and a decrease in funding and it’s a toxic mix. Wales is amongst the poorest regions of the U.K and poverty is a significant determinant in health outcomes - so that’s another increased demand. Factor in new treatments, more expensive medications etc etc and it becomes a toxic mix. The cuts in social care etc also impacted resulting in bed blocking.
It’s not only the NHS that’s suffered, policing, the criminal justice system, HMRC were slaughtered. The police lost over 20,000 officers under Cameron and May, that has a huge effect on services delivery and what can be achieved. The probation and prison system were also badly impacted.
The decrease in funding over 10 years which is a huge contributory factor. You can’t overturn the impact 10 years of real term funding has overnight. This cut in funding has to be owned by the Westminster Conservative government, but it’s clear the previous Welsh government have also made some poor choices and they are also culpable.
Both have rightly been held to account by the electorate and been dumped from office. [Post edited 10 May 9:35]

The problem with that argument is that the growth rates and debt levels of most major EU countries' over the last few years are little or no better than the performance of the UK. When economists made gloomy predictions at the time of the referendum, they did not foresee global problems that would hit nearly all European countries.
