One thing I have always felt about SFC, even in successful times, we are consistently poor at PR from dealing with the media, keeping supporters informed, providing information. It always feels like we are behind the curve, slow to respond, like a rabbit in headlights.
We have allowed Middlesbro' to take the initiative in the so called spying matter and to control the media and narrative. Asking for more time does not help us it makes it look even more suspicious.
If we have cocked up we would have been better admitting it at the outset even if the argument was that in Europe it is not considered an issue and rightly or wrongly our management team were not aware of the rules. But, whatever we say now will be too late, the train has runaway down the track and we have no influence now. Delaying our response has not helped us it has allowed anyone and everyone to decide that we are just plain cheats. Never mind that none of it has anything to do with the fact that Middlesbro' were just not good enough not just over 2 legs but since they started losing their position in the top 2 which had been theirs for over 20 weeks.
It doesn't seem to matter who is in charge of PR and Communications we consistently fall short. |  | | |  |

I would imagine the club are taking the view of it being an investigation by the EFL and will only provide any information to them so will say nothing in public.
It's playing out how I suspected it would, had Boro have won on Tuesday the frenzy for us to be punished would have died down.
What i'm most interested in is who are TalkSport getting on today to condemn Saints after James Corden? Russell Grant? Rusty Lee? Chico? Personally I won't rest until I know Nick Knowles take on all of this |  |

The club has a long standing comms guy who really isnt up to the national media approach or online. We did once have probably the biggest PR heavyweight when Liebherr bought the club, they used David Bick.
In this instance i wouldnt get involved in the hysterical rubbish Boro are spreading in the media. Its backfired, Just keep a cool head and submit to the FL what they have to do and unlike Boro not leak everything. [Post edited 14 May 11:36]

Given the circumstances, Boro were always going to be assertive on the PR side.
From our side, I think it was a case of "damned if we do, damned if we don't" with our stance.
I'm sure the Club are having the dialogue with the EFL that they need to do.
That is far more important than any playing to the gallery. |  |

I think we're going about it the right way. Say nothing until we need to while getting an accurate defence case against the charge.
They're having a dig at Tonda and Jordan Sibley because having already said they will not say any more about it just yet, he was asked bluntly, "Are you a cheat?". FFS, what is he going to say to that ridiculous question, so they walked out, having said "show some respect". Absolutely the right thing to do
There is a 2 and half page spread in the paper this morning doing whatever the press can do to dish us. Guess what part of the country that reporter is from! He then goes on to say about poor old Hellberg being nearly in tears because they didn't win. Tough sh1t!!

I reckon Saints are playing it down pretty well. Why should they go public at this stage?
Someone mentioned in another thread that if the smoggies are so secretive and sensitive about their training sessions, then why are they conducted in plain sight of the general public.

I can not see how there can be a fair investigation, we have already had trial by media and found guilty.
So much of what has been published has no bearing to the truth, Middlesbrough have been conducting a campaign of releasing info online (some true some incorrect)
As no advantage has been gained should it not be attempted spying, not spying as he did not succeed?

I have to say that the tiresome reaction to some kid stood by a fence, the threats of expulsion, the ball boy nonsense, the hurty words to Ayling, the supposed penalty claims are all yet more proof that football is full of idiots these days. It genuinely puts me off.
A few years ago people would have laughed most of it off, boro would put up a fence, and THB and Ayling would shake hands and move on.

Agree but to be fair to Ayling he has dropped the issue. He seems a decent bloke who has done a lot to overcome his stammer and supports people with the same issue. Dirty sod but wouldn’t mind him as a Saints player. |  |

Has anyone thought that Our Club are doing the right thing in their approach to this. I do. The Commission Enquiry is between The EFL and Southampton, not between Southampton and Boro.
We are doing our best to ensure that The Play Off Final is played on 23rd May between Southampton and Hull. We're almost there
Should Hull beat us then all this 'Pile On' on Southampton goes away. The Enquiry can do what they like, find us Guilty or Not. Impose a proportionate penalty on us, as we'll still be a Championship Side.
Now, when we Win the Final, The Commission will have difficulty in imposing a sentence that will satisfy those seeking Hell and Fury against us.
A concern I do have is that ticket sales for the Final have not yet been announced. Apparently both Clubs are to announce details at the same time. Have Hull been told by The EFL to delay announcing their details ? Is the Commission going to try to announce their decision before The Final ? Just get the Game played
