Friday Choons - Guitar Solos 05:36 - Jun 5 with 12078 viewsrbee

Let’s hear your favourite guitar solos. Electric guitar, acoustic, bass, steel, mandolin, banjo, lute, bouzouki, sitar.

My first offering features legendary session guitarist Larry Carlton playing with the Crusaders. The solo is early in the song after a minute and a half.

Think I'll start a Friday Choons Tuba Solos thread next week - should run to at least 20 pages.
On second thoughts……

The second solo against the descending chorus chords is lovely.

A thread on solos from other instruments would be good. I can think of a Trombone solo straight away, Hayesboy will tell you what it is!

Great idea. It’s about time Rufus Harley, the jazz bagpipe player (really) got a mention (he can drone on a bit though).

Edit: Wouldn’t it just be the icing on the cake if it turned out that Eze played a musical instrument.

Just three minutes 41 seconds long but an album's worth of ideas . Elegant solos, great use of dynamics. Me like .

Nah, trouser trombones are for the youth, with advancing years trouser piccolo seems more appropriate.

Great shout Hayesboy but I was thinking of this, trouser solo is 2:30 in

Whatabout this solo at about 3:20 to 5:10. Really takes the epic song along. And an amazing drum intro by Cozy to boot.
Shame about the wizard lyrics and the fact it was all downhill after this.

There's a jazz song sung by a female about a hot trombone player who “drives the gals crazy when he slides that thang”.
Can't remember it for the life of me. I'll try again when I've had a few more snifters.

There is a little bit of a story behind the performance.
Prince had found out that he had been left out of the top 100 guitarists of all time list.
As he was also being recognized that year it was arranged for him to join the George Harrison tribute performance. He was supposed to rehearse with them before the night but sent a message saying let the guitarist have the first solo and he would come in at the end solo. No rehearsal.
He obviously nailed the solo on the night as a way of saying FU to the Rolling Stone list.
Next year I think he was named 14th best guitarist.

I couldn't let this thread go without one from the phenomenal Julian Lage

And we have to have the classic 1980 Paco de Lucía, John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola concert, Friday Night in San Francisco, which has some of the most outstanding guitar playing ever. Sorry about the poor video quality.
