1. Can’t comment on pubs as I drank in Chelmsford.
2. Feel sorry for Colchester fans with their ground being where it is. Hardly anything around there in terms of life.
3. Ate a pie at the ground which was hotter than the sun and burnt my lip. Should have complained really, but what’s the bloody point with the kids they employ?
4. Massive screen outside the ground which was showing West Ham v Skates before the game.
5. Result for me was that the cabbie who took us to the ground from the train station pre-match actually turned up to collect us after the game, as I had requested. Stunned that he turned up. |  |

Loads of good pubs in Colchester
We park at park and ride near ground, got bus into town, did 3 pubs, then bus back cost £5.40 for 3 of us.
Away and back on A12 in no time after the game
So if you travel to game by car dead easy, but not so easy by train |  | | |

Saw a few skates at Waterloo but mainly shirters and kids. Excellent train ride up from Stratford on The Anglian trains which were not very busy considering it was summer holidays and the train had many carriages and it was very clean.
Went in Wetherspoons Colchester (3.99 for a Guinness 😃) for a few, met a few saints in there, got Uber to dog and pheasant pub which was mix of home and away fans.
Saints dominated as expected but the game had the feel of a pre season friendly for me.
A nice tidy ground albeit a bit far out , taxis or buses are needed to get to ground if traveled by train.
Got in at 12.30 am Sunday morning , another ground ticked off. I went to Layer road the old ground but this was new one for me. [Post edited 10 Aug 5:51]

1. Chelmsford was great for a drink pre-game, and good to see so many uglies there
2. Diaz is a complete waste of space and needs to be sold asap, a season with him and downs as the second striker would be horrendous
3. Peretz looked excellent but was a concern how many chances we gifted Colchester
4. The ground was in a shit location and another ground that confirms to me we dodged a bullet not having ours at Stoneham, really feel for those clubs lumbered with out of town grounds

We parked at the Dog & Pheasant which seemed to veer between being packed at the bar and then clear every 20 mins, but was decently priced reasonable food and 15 mins walk from the ground, there was a nasty little youth firm knocking around there though which turned out to be ours, 3 police cars turned up to deal with them.
2. Diaz wasn't great but I felt sorry for him, we weren't getting the ball forward to him in decent position, he needs to go though

Colchester only had 4 shots on target, 3 of them came in a 20 second period where Peretz made 3 of the 4 saves he made in the match, we were sloppy early on, but as I have said elsewhere, this was the first time we had played anything near our starting line up and we were not as organised as we should have been, they were finding their feet, this was the last pre season game in essence
4. Totally agree with you, it wasn't just it was out of town, there was just nothing much in terms of pubs etc within a mile of it and the nearby park and ride aside not much transport to it.
5. Pat as usual led the singing in the ground he is the nearest we have to JPFCW, if we all chipped in to get him a bell things could really ramp up |  |
