Larin is our main striker and is excellent. Keep Larin fit all year and we are fine. The lad on loan is hopefully really good. Keep them both fit and we are okay. However, my worry, which might not even happen, if Larin gets injured, and Mubama goes through a spell like he did at Stoke not scoring, or doesn't settle here or whatever than I think we will all be wishing we splashed out on Lankshear or Vipotnik. I think we are risking it a bit, only bringing in a player on loan, who struggled at times at Stoke, whilst Boro have splashed out on a proven striker but we shall see. | |

I think we also need to take into account that we tend to get more goals from all around the team than most sides. A lot of our midfielders score quite a bit, even THB weighs in with a few, so our need for a 20+ a season striker is perhaps less than others in the way we play. Would be nice to have though for sure. I just hope Larin continues his form, as it is possible he caught people out last season as an unknown, but now he is known and will be hassled and marked out of games a lot more. |  | | |

No - they low balled a strike partnership which worked (Stewart and Larin), causing us to lose one of our main focal points of last season’s excellent second half. This new loanee of five goals ever better be good. Cheap option again. |  | | |

The window hasn't shut yet - who's to say we won't sign a striker - perhaps we need to get a few more off the books first, like Rambo, Baz, Downs, BBD and Edozie.
BBD even got a few mins at the end yesterday. I hope that was more out of desperation than something that was actually planned. I hope he goes to Derby or Sheff Utd and that we can get someone else in.
I am not sure that if we were to sign another striker, that it would have been Vipotnik or Lankshear anyway. We would probably look abroad. Swansea would want too much for Vip and I am not so sure that Lank is as you say, 'proven'. 0 goals at WBA. 11 in 44 at Oxford. Hardly worthy of a £20m price tag.

Lankshear's transfer fee was actually £10m, plus £10m in various add-ons. In simple terms, that probably means they pay £10m if he flops and £20m if he fires them to promotion - in which case they won't be worried about the extra £10m. It sounds like a smart deal for Boro and something we should have competed on. Lankshear is the kind of player who can make the difference between promotion and mediocrity.
We should learn from that instead of messing about with the likes of Damion Downs for £7m. I fear that we won't sign a proper centre forward and instead we'll keep hold of one of our "jack of all trades" strikers BBD, Archer and Downs. None of them can do the job we need. | | | |

My thoughts exactly. Lankshear comes in to Boro, full of confidence from last season, tall, strong striker, very likely to hit the ground running. Young players are always a big risk as they might get homesick, might not settle, might need lots of teaching and you risk bringing in a Damion Downes. Saints usually take the cheap option, with our rivals spending big. It was the same in the PL, when we should have splashed out on a proven, quality striker. Instead we brought in BBD and Archer. Nothing is 100 per cent guaranteed, but you bring in a proven full of confidence striker, he is more likely to succeed. This year with the minus 4, we need a good start more than ever. The annoying thing is that when we need a good start more than ever, we played our worse half in a long while. But we go again on Saturday amd have to win that game. [Post edited 17 Aug 14:17]
