Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict on 09:52 - Sep 18 with 1685 views | PatfromPoole | At least we looked like scoring at Wolves. There was just nothing on Friday night. No runners to support Che Adams. We looked clueless on Friday against a really poor side, I thought.

Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict on 10:01 - Sep 18 with 1663 views | PatfromPoole | It is increasingly clear that Che Adams is our only striker. Mara has shown in his last two games that he simply cannot head a football; so crossing the ball to him in the air is pointless. If Adams gets injured, we are in real trouble.

Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict on 19:52 - Sep 18 with 1355 views | DorsetIan | I’m sick of it. We fans are like a beaten dog, served up so much bad that when a win or two comes along we wet ourselves with excitement. Ralph’s tenure has been mainly awful, with the odd bright game or spell to keep us keen. Why can’t he either build a team that grows and improves, or just f*ck off. That’s the deal for every other manager in the world.

My main complaint re Ralph is that he fails to put a consistent team out. Its a shame really as I like the guy.

I like him because he Jazz Hands 1 in 5 games, wears a waistcoat, has a great surname and says “shit” in the fans forum. He keeps us in The Premier League and gets us to a FA Cup Quarter Final! What more do you guys want!!?? We’ve had bad injuries, dodgy refereeing decisions, dodgy VAR decisions, an owner who would not pump money in, Covid, diseased grass, wind, rain, sun and Ralph has STILL kept us up. He loves Southampton FC and never wants to leave. Give him a break!! WE MARCH ON

What do you like about him? His hair? Fashion sense? His awful use of the English language? His big white trainers? His one win a month that keeps him in a job? His piano?

Southgate has a fantastic record for England. If he didn’t keep picking Mount, he would be pretty much perfect. You can’t argue with his record of one final and two semi-finals in the three tournaments he has been in charge. Unfortunately I was at all three defeats, so maybe I’m the problem…..

He wears a waistcoat too, but he NEEDS to say “shit” at a fans forum to win the fans over.

Southgate’s record would be even better if he picked on form and stopped letting the journalists pick the team. Average player, average manager lucky to have a wealth of talent to mismanage.

Couldn’t disagree more. Has a knack of getting players to play a whole lot better for England than they do for their clubs. The exact opposite of pretty much every England manager since Sir Bobby Robson.

Venables did ok. Southgate reminds me of Pochettino, on the surface a good manager but not brave enough when it comes to crunch fixtures like the Croatia and Italy matches.

Venables under-achieved in my opinion. Had a team full of leaders at the top of their game. Seaman, Adams, Pearce, Ince, Shearer and dare I say it, Southgate….. Plus of course Gascoigne in his prime. Apologies Nick, I know this wasn’t a thread about England; all I can say is I didn’t start this…….

Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict on 13:34 - Sep 19 with 819 views | PatfromPoole | We were also completely outplayed by Spain in the quarter-final of Euro 96. People get nostalgic about Euro 96, mainly because of the Holland game, and Gascoigne’s goal against Scotland, but for quite a lot of that tournament (the Swiss game, the first-half against Scotland, and the whole game against Spain) we weren’t very good at all. I never liked Venables for many of the reasons I’m sure a number of people on here will identify with. [Post edited 19 Sep 2022 13:35]

You could say the same about WC 2018 Tunisia and Panama were easy games, lost to Belgium, scraped past Colombia on pens, Sweden not very good, then lost to a street wise Croatia who were hardly world beaters, and lost to Belgium again for 3rd place
